All 5 out of 5 undersea fiber optic cable routes connecting Vietnam internationally encountering problems.

On the morning of February 21st, an Internet service provider in Vietnam disclosed that SMW3 experienced a cable fault, occurring at section S2.7 towards Singapore, while the remaining four undersea cable routes are still undergoing repairs.
Therefore, all 5 out of 5 undersea fiber optic cable routes connecting Vietnam internationally are facing issues. Previously, from November 2022 to January this year, both AAG and APG routes lost their entire capacities, while IA and AAE-1 routes remained partially operational.
Despite all routes being compromised throughout the year, since SMW-3 is an older cable route with minimal exploitation and network providers had pre-planned capacity supplements, the recent issue did not significantly impact Internet services in Vietnam.

According to a representative from VNPT, they do not allocate SMW-3 route capacity for fixed broadband Internet services, hence this issue does not affect Internet quality.
Repair plans for 3 undersea fiber optic routes including APG, AAG, IA are scheduled for mid-March to early April. Therefore, it may not be until the end of March, even mid-April, that the international Internet quality from Vietnam improves.
At present, due to widespread undersea fiber optic cable disruptions, the international Internet speed from Vietnam is severely affected. Both general Internet users and gamers, in particular, will have to adapt to this situation, at least until mid-March.
