Longtime pals for over two decades in Texas (USA), Sandy Hazelip and Ellie Hamby embarked on an 80-day global adventure to mark their 81st birthdays.
Global Adventure of 81-Year-Old Grandmothers
Mrs. Hazelip met Mrs. Hamby after her husband passed away in 1999. Their friendship deepened further when Mrs. Hamby's husband passed away in 2005. The idea for the world tour began several years before they hit 80.

However, their trip was postponed due to the global Covid-19 outbreak when they turned 80. In 2023, as the duo stepped into their 81st year, the two grandmothers finally fulfilled their dream. The travel journey started on January 11, with their first stop being the South Pole.
This duo visited 18 countries across all 7 continents, experiencing remarkable moments like camel riding in Egypt, observing elephants in Bali (Indonesia), dancing in Nepal, witnessing the northern lights at the North Pole, and dog-sledding in Finland.

Throughout their 80-day global adventure, they encountered numerous challenges, from political issues in different countries to cultural etiquette. However, they always remained cheerful, avoiding any conflicts. Moreover, the families of both grandmothers wholeheartedly supported their adventurous journey at the age of 81.
As their journey concludes, the duo is already planning their trip at the age of 82. Clearly, the travel story of this pair serves as inspiration for other elderly travelers and the younger generation, demonstrating that dreams are unstoppable when pursued.
