The People's Committee of Lao Cai Province announces the initiation of constructing a cable car from SaPa town to Fansipan mountain within the Hoang Lien National Park. The goal is to create a high-end, modern tourist community in Sapa, providing additional tourism products for Sa Pa.
The project is invested in two phases. Phase 1 involves the cable car system and a cultural tourism complex, with construction set to commence this year and completion expected in 2014. Phase 2 includes hotel facilities and an entertainment zone.
According to Mr. Dang Thanh Phong, Director of the Planning and Investment Department, the project is built not only to generate additional tourism products for Sa Pa but also to attract many tourists to visit the Hoang Lien National Park.

Currently, only a few hundred tourists register to climb Fansipan peak each month. With the cable car, the number of visitors is expected to increase significantly. Moreover, constructing the cable route is also conducive to flexible forest fire patrols and waste disposal from deep forest areas to centralized processing zones.
The SaPa cable car project is led by Fansipan SaPa Cable Car Tourism Services Limited Liability Company, a member unit of the Sun Group Cable Car Service Joint Stock Company.

Lao Cai Province has also resolved to establish a Task Force to aid investors in project implementation. The Task Force is actively progressing through preparation steps, ensuring the highest feasibility in site selection, height, and cable route length for harmonious integration into the overall space without disrupting the natural landscape. It aims to preserve the beauty and environmental friendliness of the natural heritage area, serving as a complex of cultural, service, and entertainment tourism facilities for visitors to SaPa.
