The Essence Museum, located in Duong Dong town, currently preserves numerous materials and artifacts of economic, social, and cultural value specific to Phu Quoc and Vietnam as a whole.
Essence Museum – Unveiling Cultural and Historical Treasures of Phu Quoc

The Essence Museum consists of 6 floors, each arranged according to different historical periods such as Phu Quoc during the Mac dynasty, Phu Quoc during the Nguyen dynasty, and Phu Quoc after the liberation in 1975... Additionally, the museum also showcases historical landmarks such as the Oc Eo culture, Phu Quoc pottery, prominent female leaders, and pioneers who pioneered the land here.

The entire museum spans an area of up to 6 hectares, with each floor featuring unique and distinct themes:
Floor 1: Natural Conditions and Wildlife of the Island.
Floor 2: Exploration History and the Process of Protecting and Developing Phu Quoc.
Floor 3: Collection of Archaeological Artifacts Reflecting the Beauty of Island Culture.
Floor 4: Introduction to Antiquities Salvaged from Shipwrecks off the Eastern Coast of the Island.
Floor 5: Exhibition on the Lives of Fishermen on the Island.
Floor 6: Outdoor Exhibition.

From 2009 to the present, the Essence Museum has collected over 3000 artifacts, many of which are precious with centuries of existence and development. Visitors not only explore the exhibition space but also have the opportunity to learn about and discover the history and origins of these valuable heritage sites.

Among them, the collection includes pottery, stone, porcelain, bronze, and petrified wood with 2645 selected artifacts from 9 personal collections, including Vietnamese pottery from the 7th century BC, from the Ly, Tran, Le, Nguyen dynasties, and Thai and Chinese pottery from the 15th, 16th centuries... These are crystallized artifacts of the nation's wisdom and essence over thousands of years of history, carrying great value.

Additionally, the museum also exhibits a collection of materials about the country and people of Phu Quoc through various periods, including 300 documents written in English, Vietnamese, and French, serving as resources for researchers to explore the history of Phu Quoc in different stages.

One of the most prominent historical stories involves artifacts related to Madame Kim Giao, revered by the islanders as a goddess, credited with leading the people in cultivation, facilitating trade, and exempting taxes during the Nguyen era, leading to the island's prosperity.

Furthermore, the museum has bred and preserved over 30 species of sea eagles, known as the 'weather forecasters' of Phu Quoc's seas. The Essence Museum is thus likened to a sanctuary nurturing not only in size but also in spirit, dedicated to conserving endemic species.
