Getting Around
The distance from Hanoi to Sam Son is 170 km, making it suitable for a weekend getaway. There are two routes for you to choose from: The expressway of National Highway 1 from Hanoi to Ninh Binh, then to Thanh Hoa, and National Highway 10 from Phap Van – Cau Giay – Ninh Binh - Thanh Hoa. Afterward, follow National Highway 47 to reach the city of Sam Son.
When traveling with family, consider taking a train or a passenger car. From Giap Bat Bus Station to Thanh Hoa City, the bus ticket price starts from 80,000 VND per person. In Thanh Hoa City, take Bus 01 at the railway station gate or the Provincial Post Office for about 15,000 VND one way to reach Sam Son. If you prefer avoiding multiple transfers, choose certain buses at Giap Bat Bus Station on the Hanoi – Sam Son route with a fare of 100,000 VND.
Opting for a tour, you can contact travel companies in Sam Son with offices in Hanoi. The all-inclusive package costs around 1.6 million VND per person for 3 days and 2 nights. However, carefully read the tour itinerary and inquire if the price includes meals and hotel expenses.

On days with rough seas, Sầm Sơn often forms dangerous currents far from the shore. Before taking a swim, tourists should spend a few minutes observing and staying away from hazardous areas.
Sầm Sơn Beach always has a dedicated rescue team on standby. In case of water-related emergencies such as drowning, seasickness, or cramps, it's best to keep your mouth shut, hold your breath, use your arms and legs as paddles, fan your head out of the water, and signal for help. Note that swimming is not allowed during midday and from 5 pm onwards. The rescue team is unavailable during these hours for safety reasons, so it's crucial to adhere to these guidelines for your well-being.
Sightseeing and Shopping
Sam Son Tourism allows tourists to explore various places such as Trống Mái Islet, Cô Tiên Pagoda, Độc Cước Temple, Cô Tiên Temple, Tô Hiến Thành Temple, Trường Lệ Mountain, and Sam Son Market. A bit further along the way, tourists can visit Thanh Hoa's landmarks like Hồ Citadel, Fairy Fish Stream, Bà Triệu Temple, Từ Thức Cave, and Bến En National Park.
You can negotiate prices to purchase colorful sea stones, cute little keychain hooks made from seashells, or seashell wind chimes displayed along the beach as souvenirs for your trip. Additionally, make sure to visit Sam Son Market and Dien Bien to buy fresh seafood at reasonable prices.
