While Apple has Siri, Google Assistant serves as the virtual assistant for Android phones. Many have explored its capabilities on their smartphones and shared their experiences online. Let's dive into what makes it stand out!
1. What is Google Assistant?
Google Assistant is a virtual personal assistant primarily voice-operated, developed by Google and first introduced in May 2016.
After a period of limited support on a few company devices, Google began rolling out Google Assistant on various Android devices and quickly released it on iOS in early 2017.
In particular, last May, Google officially announced the Vietnamese version of Google Assistant. This significant advancement helped the virtual assistant quickly expand its presence in Vietnam as the first assistant to support communication in Vietnamese.
Additionally, Google Assistant supports a wide range of devices such as phones, cars, smart devices, and more.
- Operation method: After setup, simply say 'Ok Google' or 'Hey Google' followed by your commands, and Google Assistant will automatically understand and provide suggestions, results promptly. One remarkable aspect of this feature is that the more you use Google Assistant, the smarter it becomes. To improve daily, Google Assistant can learn user habits and preferences. Furthermore, Google Assistant can be activated by pressing function keys.

2. Devices Supporting Google Assistant
Google allows third parties (other manufacturers) to add additional features to Google Assistant, so this virtual assistant supports a large variety of devices. Here are some popular ones:
- For phones: Android products will be integrated with the Google app (version Android 5.0 onwards), and on iPhones, Google Assistant supports devices running iOS 11 or later, with a capacity of around 200MB.
- For other devices: Google Assistant also supports smart devices such as TVs, smart speakers, etc.

3. Benefits of Google Assistant
To interact with our virtual assistant, we can converse using the phrase 'OK Google' or input via the keyboard and interact on the device screen.
With Google's natural language processing algorithm, Assistant can engage in two-way conversations between software and users naturally and authentically. This is also the biggest improvement compared to its predecessor, Google Now, developed by Google earlier.
Benefits of Google Assistant:
- Voice search saves time.
- Instant voice-guided directions without needing to hold onto the phone.
- Answering queries: Formulas, calculation results, unit conversions, checking train schedules, etc.
- Cross-platform functionality: Works on various devices such as phones, tablets, smart speakers, smartwatches, TVs, etc.
- Always secure and private.
You should download the Google Assistant app! It's completely free (as of 09/06/2021).
