Exceptional 3D2N Itinerary to Explore Nam Du Island
I decided to embark on a sun-soaked journey to Nam Du Island full of sunshine and breeze. A detailed review of the authentic 3D2N resort getaway for only 1,900k per person.
TRANSPORTATION
– Saigon – Rach Gia: Head to the Western Bus Station, where you can book any bus to Rach Gia. I booked online with Phuong Trang at 165k per trip. Opt for midnight journeys to have time for rest and arrive in Rach Gia at dawn, which is simply beautiful (approximately 5-6 hours).
– Rach Gia – Nam Du Island: Explore various high-speed boat options like Superdong and Phú Quốc Express. I also booked Superdong online for 210k/trip. However, after reading reviews, I found Phú Quốc Express offers a smoother ride despite the higher cost (around 250k/trip). Consider booking a round trip for convenience (approximately 2 hours each way).
– Rent a scooter to explore Nam Du Island, with rental prices ranging from 150k to 200k, depending on the location. I rented mine at Huy Hoàng guesthouse.
WHERE TO STAY
– I booked Huy Hoàng guesthouse for 315k/night. The room was clean, and the host was quite friendly and helpful.
WHAT TO DO
Day 1:
– For lunch, I contacted the guesthouse to book a tour for island sightseeing, coral diving, and enjoying sea urchin porridge, priced at 150k/person.
– Upon reaching the island, you'll have approximately 1 hour for photos with pre-set scenes or to take a dip in the sea. Note that not drinking water incurs a photo-taking fee. An additional 10k/person is charged for transferring from the large boat to a smaller one.
– After capturing moments and a refreshing swim, head to another island for coral diving (including life jacket and snorkeling gear rental) with a fee of 50k/set.
– Continue the fun until 5 pm, then make your way up the pass, the path leading to Mến Beach, to witness a beautiful and romantic sunset.
Day 2:
– Wake up early to catch the sunrise over the sea, especially breathtaking between 6-7 am. I also ran to the road leading to Mến Beach from yesterday for a sunrise check-in.
– Afterwards, head to Pebble Beach for some photo opportunities. If you skip hydrating, there's a 10k/photo fee per person.
– I also visited Thảo Thường Camp and Humiso tourist area for check-ins. No photo fees apply in these spots.
– Around 10 am, make your way to Mến Beach, considered the most beautiful in Nam Du. In the afternoon, explore the entire Nam Du Island by scooter to discover various scenic spots. Take the chance to visit and light incense for blessings at the temple of Nam Hải Chi Vương, where the colossal skeleton of a super-sized whale is displayed.
– Prepare to return to Saigon. The journey from Nam Du to Saigon takes approximately 11 hours.
WHAT TO EAT
Day 1:
– Enjoy lunch at Hoa Hoàng restaurant, with costs per person varying depending on the dishes, ranging from 80-100k/person.
– In the evening, head to the seafood market to handpick ingredients and have them prepared as desired. Must-try items include grilled sea urchin at 15k each, garlic sautéed mantis shrimp at 500k/kg, grilled snails, sautéed squid, and stir-fried vegetables at 100k/dish. Refresh with beverages priced at 20-30k/bottle.
Day 2:
– Enjoy breakfast at Humiso tourist area, featuring a variety of dishes ranging from 30-50k.
– For lunch at Mến Beach, brace yourself for a steep bill – 500k for boiled chicken, and 300k for a seafood rice dish by the shore.
– Come evening, revisit Hoa Hoàng restaurant and don't miss their signature dish: grilled fish wrapped in rice paper, a best-seller.
Day 3:
– Relish a bowl of bun rieu near the guesthouse, priced at 35k per bowl – delicious, nutritious, and budget-friendly.
– Indulge in the island's specialty drink, the superbly tasty crushed me plum beverage.
PHOTOGRAPHY TIPS
– Opt for a wide-angle shot using an iPhone 11 Pro Max or edit photos directly on iPhone under the Edit – Straighten – Adjust Tilt section.
– Recommended apps: Use Snapseed to remove blemishes and Lightroom for color correction.
