(Thethaovanhoa.vn) - A large number of Vietnamese LoL gamers have begun their migration journey, even though it's only the first day of the Garena - Riot account linking phase.
LoL migration
In early November, Riot announced the commencement of allowing Vietnamese League of Legends (LoL) gamers to migrate accounts from Garena to Riot servers. The migration period is from 18/11/2022 to January 2023. After migration, gamers can still play LoL on the Garena servers. Riot also advises users to migrate as early as possible to avoid potential issues.
According to most gamers, the migration process is not overly complicated. Creating a Riot account is also done quickly and simply with any email. Especially, although Riot announced that the migration link would only open at 9 a.m. on 18/11, many gamers had completed the process several minutes earlier.

- 'Got it done, took a bit longer because had to create a new Riot account but once that was done, the migration was pretty quick.'

Some issues during LoL migration
However, an issue arose (predicted by many gamers beforehand) namely server congestion. Having to accommodate such a large number of players accessing simultaneously to migrate accounts caused some hiccups for the Riot servers. Many players also encountered situations where they received a server error message after creating their account.
- 'Just finished and the page crashed.'
- 'Too crowded, server congested, had to reload the page several times to get in.'
- 'Linking was quick, but getting to the linking page took a while.'
One notable point is that many gamers used their VALORANT accounts to link with Riot. In these cases, gamers will receive a notification 'You are using an LMHT account not in the Southeast Asia region.' This is because when creating an account to play VALORANT (or any Riot game previously), the server at that time was still Riot North America.
- 'Accounts created while playing VALORANT cannot be linked.'
- 'Had to create a completely new Riot account without having played any Riot games before.'
- 'Just create a new Riot account, super easy to do.'
Moreover, some gamers even received notifications 'Garena accounts permanently banned.' This caused account owners to panic as these accounts were previously used normally. However, according to some gamers, after creating a completely new email, players can proceed with the migration as usual.
In summary, the migration process has been quite smooth, and Riot has also committed to providing maximum support to gamers in case of any issues during this process. Gamers still have plenty of time to carry out the migration and prepare for the official 'move' starting in 01/2023.
