Previously, I mainly relied on Google Maps for navigation, but with iOS 17, I've started using Apple Maps more frequently to meet my navigation needs. The default Maps app on iOS 17 has seen significant improvements, and below are some noteworthy enhancements that you should know about.Offline Maps
In iOS 17, users can download offline maps for navigation in areas with no cellular coverage. iPhone users can specify particular regions to download and access directions for those areas without an internet connection. Moreover, Apple Maps on iOS 17 allows users to download comprehensive information such as operating hours of a location or reviews from other visitors. The only drawback is the lack of real-time traffic data.
Electric Vehicle Charging Stations
Currently, Apple Maps displays available charging stations in real-time along the user's route. This feature is particularly useful for electric vehicle owners. However, it is currently limited to supported countries. Hopefully, Vietnam will be included in the list of supported countries in the future.User Interface Update
There have been some minor changes to the interface when users access directions in the Apple Maps app. The transportation icons have become more intuitive, along with displaying arrival time options for each mode of transportation.
Adjust Volume
In iOS 17, users can customize the navigation volume with different levels including: low, normal, and high. Additionally, in the guidance interface, there's an added feature to share departure time with others and report incidents along the route.
Here are some of the latest features of Apple Maps on iOS 17. Currently, if you want to upgrade to iOS 17 to experience these features, you have two update options including Public Beta and Dev Beta. Personally, I recommend going straight for the Dev beta to have more new experiences, fewer bugs, and more features.
