Based on recent reports and leaks, the new generation of Pixel devices promises significant upgrades to enhance user experience. Let's explore the features of the standard Pixel 8 model based on rumors and leaks.
Design and Display
According to leaked sources, Google seems to maintain a familiar design for the 2023 Pixel lineup. Therefore, the Pixel 8 retains a modern hole-punch design on the front, with thin bezels and a horizontal camera module, distinguishing it from competitors.
However, Google will make some minor adjustments to the appearance of the new Pixel phone. According to leaks, this smartphone will feature a matte aluminum frame and a glossy glass back, exuding premium quality. The device will have rounder corners and a slightly smaller overall size. It's rumored to measure 150.5 x 70.8 x 8.9mm, compared to the Pixel 7's dimensions of 155.6 x 73.2 x 8.7mm.
The smaller size also means that the screen on the next generation Pixel phone will be slightly smaller than its predecessor. The Google Pixel 8 is expected to sport a 6.17-inch OLED display offering Full-HD+ resolution, 120Hz refresh rate, HDR support, and a maximum brightness of up to 1,400 nits.
Technical Specifications
Internally, the Pixel 8 series will be equipped with the new Tensor G3 processor. According to sources, this chipset is developed based on the yet-to-be-announced Exynos 2300 SoC. The Tensor G3, built on Samsung's advanced 3nm process node, is expected to deliver better performance and improved energy efficiency. The next Pixel phone is rumored to feature a similar memory configuration to its predecessor.
This implies that we can expect storage options of 128GB or 256GB. Additionally, the device may feature an upgraded ultrasonic fingerprint sensor and come pre-installed with Android 14. The Pixel 8 is powered by a 4,485mAh battery with 24W fast charging support.
Last but certainly not least, a recent report suggests that Google will provide 7 years of software update support for its Pixel 8 lineup.
Camera
Historically, Google's Pixel series has been renowned for its impressive camera capabilities, and it seems the upcoming Pixel 8 won't disappoint. Based on recent reports, this year's standard Pixel variant will feature Samsung's 50-megapixel ISOCELL GN2 main camera sensor. This sensor will be paired with a 12-megapixel INX386 ultra-wide-angle camera. It's also expected to include an upgraded Time of Flight (ToF) sensor.
On the front, the Pixel 8 is rumored to sport an 11-megapixel camera for selfies and video calls. Google is said to introduce a range of useful features through the Camera app, including Staggered HDR, Face Unblur, Photo Unblur, 8K video recording, Night Sight, Super Res Zoom, Video Unblur, Audio Magic Eraser, and more.
Release Date, Colors, and Price
The company will host the Made by Google launch event on October 4, 2023. The Pixel 8 is expected to come in various color variants including Hazel, Rose, and Obsidian. Unlike the Pro versions, the standard Pixel phone is popularly priced at $600. However, it seems the brand won't maintain this price point this year. If recent reports are accurate, the Pixel 8 is expected to start at $700.
