Nghệ An boasts numerous revered temples and pagodas, steeped in ancient lore passed down through generations. Among them, there are currently three prominent temples, part of the 'four sacred sites' in Nghệ An as per ancient beliefs. These include the Cờn Temple (in Hoàng Mai town), the Quả Sơn Temple (in Đô Lương), and the Bạch Mã Temple (in Thanh Chương).
These temples are strategically situated in picturesque locations. The Cờn Temple sits beside the Mai River and coastal shores, offering serene landscapes and profound spirituality, dedicated to the Four Holy Mothers. The Quả Sơn Temple, located along the banks of the Lam River, is a sanctuary honoring Uy Minh Vương Lý Nhật Quang, the eighth prince of King Lý Thái Tổ, renowned for his contributions to the Nghệ region and his protection of its people from external threats.

In addition to the aforementioned three temples, Nghệ An is adorned with many temples and pagodas boasting scenic beauty and spiritual significance. These include the Cuông Temple (in Diễn Châu), the Vạn Lộc Temple (in Cửa Lò town), the Đức Hoàng Temple (in Yên Thành), the Ông Hoàng Mười Temple (in Hưng Nguyên), the Quang Trung Temple (in Vinh city), the Chín Gian Temple (in Quế Phong), and the Vạn – Cửa Rào Temple (in Tương Dương), along with the Gám Pagoda (in Yên Thành) and the Đại Tuệ Pagoda (in Nam Đàn).
