Exciting New Features Expected on iPhone 15 Pro

Apple is slated to release the iPhone 15 lineup in September 2023, and thanks to rumors and leaks, we have a fairly comprehensive picture of the devices. The 2023 iPhone series is expected to include 4 models: the standard iPhone 15, iPhone 15 Pro, and more. While all these phones are rumored to feature USB-C ports and Dynamic Island, it appears Apple will reserve major upgrades for the iPhone 15 Pro models.

Given Apple's tendency to stick to a design element for a few years before making changes, this year's iPhone 15 Pro models are also expected to feature a pill-shaped hole-punch design like the previous generation. In 2023, most smartphone manufacturers are moving towards thinner bezel designs, and according to a rumor, the iPhone 15 Pro Max could set a new standard. Renowned leaker Ice Universe believes the 6.7-inch iPhone 15 Pro Max will have a 1.51mm bezel, making it the smartphone with the thinnest bezels. Currently, the Xiaomi 13 holds this record with a screen bezel thickness of just 1.81mm.

Wi-Fi 6E for Faster Wireless Connectivity

According to various sources, including analyst Ming-Chi Kuo of TF International Securities, the iPhone 15 series may support the Wi-Fi 6E standard. However, MacRumors suggests that only the new Pro models will feature this capability. Compared to Wi-Fi 6, which operates with 2.4GHz and 5GHz routers, Wi-Fi 6E can connect to 6GHz routers and provide faster download/upload speeds.

Multi-function Action Button

Another rumored feature for the iPhone 15 Pro is a pressure-sensitive Action button. Recently, a user named analytics941 took to Twitter to share information indicating that the action button will serve various purposes, including rebooting the iPhone, powering off the phone, and focusing/shooting photos in the Camera app. Previous rumors suggested that Apple would use solid-state status buttons for the next-generation iPhone models, but analyst Ming-Chi Kuo now claims that technical issues have forced Apple to abandon the idea for the iPhone 15 Pro.

Promising Lens for Enhanced Optical Zoom

A promising lens comprises light-reflecting mirrors on the main sensor, functioning as a periscope system for magnifying distant subjects. While the iPhone currently offers optical zoom capabilities up to 3x, this figure is much lower compared to the dedicated 10x telephoto camera of the Galaxy S23 Ultra.

USB-C Port

Most recent reports suggest that Apple will equip the upcoming iPhone 15 lineup with a new USB-C port. However, only the new Pro models will support higher transfer speeds. According to Kuo, the more expensive iPhones will come with at least USB 3.2 or Thunderbolt 3 protocol, much faster than the current Lightning cable. The iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus will also have USB-C ports, but the transfer speed will be limited to USB 2.0 standard.

Advanced A17 Bionic Chipset (3nm)

For the Pro models, Apple has utilized the A16 Bionic chipset (4nm). This year, the company is slated to unveil the A17 Bionic chipset (3nm) for the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max. The upgraded processor will not only deliver more power but also, being based on the 3nm architecture, it will be more power-efficient.

Quoting TSMC Chairman Mark Liu, Bloomberg reported in December 2022 that the new chipset will consume 35% less energy while delivering better performance. The new chipset will also enhance other aspects of the iPhone 15 Pro, such as photography and battery life.
