The game title celebrating 10 years since the launch of Sword Art Online has announced its release.
In celebration of Sword Art Online's 10th anniversary of its first anime episode, Bandai Namco has unveiled a brand-new mobile game set in the Sword Art Online universe. It's called Sword Art Online: Variant Showdown. Currently, not much is known about this game, except that Sword Art Online: Variant Showdown will be completely free to play and is likely to debut in the summer of 2022.
Recently, the developers announced a Closed Beta phase in June. Gamers can sign up to be Beta testers through the game's official website, but the testing period is very limited. Lucky participants will be divided into two groups with different schedules. Specifically:
Group 1 - from June 17th to June 21st, 2022, until 3:59 AM UTC, which is 10:59 AM Vietnam time.
Group 2 - from June 24th to June 28th, 2022, until 3:59 AM UTC, which is 10:59 AM Vietnam time.
Sword Art Online: Variant Showdown will be released for both Android and iOS devices in 2022, coinciding with the 10-year anniversary of the “Sword Art Online” anime series. In mid-2021, a Sword Art Online spinoff titled Sword Art Online Black Swordsman: Ace, a officially licensed MMORPG by Bandai Namco and Kadokawa, was also launched for mobile. However, neither of these products gained much trust from the gaming community or Sword Art Online fans as they felt Bandai Namco had milked the game to the point of producing... nothing worthwhile.
