The brand-new Settings icon is now positioned at the top bar, opening up a control panel that provides various interfaces. Upon logging into Gmail, users can adjust the theme of their inbox, content density, and other inbox settings. This addition brings a much more user-friendly interface compared to the previous options, including different pop-up interfaces for most of these settings.

Changes made to the Gmail inbox are reflected in real-time, providing users with a Preview of how their selected settings will look, offering a convenient addition. Users can easily activate the reading pane, a task that previously required separate settings. However, the company states that the new sidebar only provides a new, easier way to change settings and will not introduce any additional features.
For those familiar, this feature is similar to what is already available on Outlook for the web. Changes to the Gmail web app are currently being rolled out to users with personal accounts and GSuite users in the Rapid Release domain. Those in the Scheduled Release domain will have access to this feature starting June 22. No administrator controls are given for this addition as it will be activated by default for G Suite users.
