According to a recent report by Chrome Story, Google is working on an experimental flag to enable scroll capture on Chrome in the future.
'Chrome Share Long Screenshots: Enables UI to edit and share long screenshots on Android'.
The Flag's description sheds light on what we can expect. Once this feature officially launches, users will be able to capture, edit, and share scrollable screenshots from the Chrome browser. Unfortunately, the Flag has yet to appear even in Chrome's Canary channel. Hopefully, Google will add the scroll capture option to Chrome's share page, which already has a screenshot button.
Certainly, this isn't a completely new or revolutionary feature. Some OEM interfaces including One UI, MIUI, and Oxygen OS have had this feature for quite some time. In fact, users can use third-party apps like LongShot to capture scrollable pages on any Android device.
In a recent Reddit Ask Me Anything thread, Dan Sandler, a member of the Android team, clarified that the company's goal is to develop scroll capture functionality in a way that any app can utilize. Talk is cheap, but action takes time, and of course, effective implementation of the feature will require time.
Until then, the upcoming scroll capture feature will be beneficial for users, at least within the Chrome browser. We'll have to wait until the Chrome team officially rolls out this feature. Hopefully, that will happen in the coming weeks.
