With the new password manager, users can designate the Microsoft Authenticator app as their preferred solution for automatic form filling, enabling them to synchronize passwords across devices. This feature seamlessly operates between computers and mobile devices when using the linked Edge browser associated with the Microsoft account. Meanwhile, users need to install a browser extension called Microsoft Autofill to utilize this feature on Google Chrome.
After setting Authenticator as the default autofill solution on the phone and enabling the Autofill feature within the app, you can access and manage saved login information from the new Passwords tab. The Redmond company also notes that synchronized passwords are secured through mobile device multi-factor authentication.
Certain limitations exist in this solution, including the absence of a password generator and password syncing limited to personal Microsoft accounts. The company mentions that the autofill feature is unavailable for enterprise users using Azure Active Directory. However, IT administrators in IT can activate this feature for business and education clients by opting to join the beta version.

Considering the feature is still in beta, it would not be surprising to see the company adding more functionalities, ultimately transforming Authenticator into a viable alternative to other services. The autofill option will be deployed for users running Authenticator on iOS 12 and above, and Android 6 (Marshmallow) and above.
