Access the Registry Editor. Modifying the Windows Registry can extend the validity for up to a year. Although this method isn't officially endorsed by Microsoft.
- To access the Registry Editor, press
⊞ Win+R and type regedit. Alternatively, you can initiate it from the Command Prompt by typing regedit and hitting ↵ Enter.
Utilize the directory tree on the left to navigate to the appropriate folder. Expand each section of the registry displayed in the left panel. Use this to locate the following path:
- HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\SL
Right-click on the 'SkipRearm' key and choose 'Modify'. You'll find this key within the right panel after selecting the SL folder.
Adjust the value in the 'Value data' field to .1. Select 'OK' to apply the changes to the key. This action will prolong the renewal period by 240 days, thus totaling one year of renewals.
Execute the slmgr -rearm command on a monthly basis. Perform this action every month for the subsequent eight months.
Reinstall Vista annually. Once your yearly renewal period expires, reinstall Vista from scratch to begin anew. Reinstalling Vista typically takes about an hour to complete. After reinstalling, follow the aforementioned steps to indefinitely use Vista without activation. This eliminates the need for cracked software or illegal versions.
