Experience of independent travel to Hue Da Nang Hoi An in 2017
Typically, when traveling to Da Nang, people often combine it with trips to Hue and Hoi An. Let's plan a budget-friendly, comfortable, and enjoyable Da Nang - Hue - Hoi An itinerary with topdiadiem.com.
I/ Getting to Da Nang by what means?
You can reach Da Nang using the following means of transportation:
1/ Cheap flights to Da Nang
Flying is the most suitable mode of transportation recommended by topdiadiem.com when traveling to Da Nang. Airfares from Hanoi - Saigon to Da Nang start from only 400,000 to over 2 million VND, securing a cheap ticket costs as much as a bus ride and saves a lot of time.
2/ Take a train to Da Nang
Taking a train from Hanoi or Saigon to Da Nang takes about 14 – 20 hours depending on the speed of the train. It takes longer from Saigon as the distance is greater. This mode of transportation is less popular, but who knows, one day you might want to experience it? I can't forget the peaceful scenery outside the window of the North - South train passing through Da Nang. Unforgettable is the spectacular view when the train passes through Hai Van Pass, with one side being the towering cliffs and the other side the blue sea.
Ticket prices from Hanoi to Da Nang: 300 – 650,000 VND depending on the seat type.
Ticket prices from Saigon to Da Nang: 900 – 1,150,000 VND depending on the seat type.
3/ Take a sleeper bus to Da Nang
Sleeper buses to Da Nang are usually North-South buses with sleeper beds. Ticket prices and quality do not differ much, but in terms of service, it's safest to go with Hoang Long and Mai Linh. There are also many other bus companies to choose from such as Hung Thanh, Hlink, Thuan Thao, Phuong Trang, Sinh Cafe...
II/ Where to go on the Da Nang – Hue – Hoi An itinerary?
At each destination, you should spend 1-2 days for thorough exploration:
1/Famous attractions in Da Nang
Da Nang is one of the rare cities that has mountains, beaches, islands, peninsulas, and beautiful urban architecture... so you have a 'lot' of places to visit when traveling here. Whether it's natural or man-made beauty, this city (on its own) deserves to be one of Vietnam's top tourist cities. Da Nang is often likened to the most livable city in Vietnam, and it's not wrong.
The city of bridges
Located in the city center, first, we must mention the impressive bridges. Let's talk about the top 5 impressive bridges in the city. You can explore bridges like Han River Bridge, Dragon Bridge, Love Bridge, Thuan Phuoc Bridge.
Sơn Trà Peninsula
Situated on the left side (heading from the city towards the sea) is the Sơn Trà Peninsula, a place you definitely can't miss when traveling to Da Nang. Sơn Trà Mountain is famous for the Linh Ứng Pagoda with the largest statue of the Goddess of Mercy in the country. The people of Da Nang say that since the statue of the Goddess faces the sea, the city has experienced fewer natural disasters.
Mỹ Khê Beach
This would be the first destination I choose when traveling to Da Nang. One of the 20 most beautiful beaches on the planet. The water is so clear that when swimming, you might accidentally encounter a school of small fish swimming around your feet. With waves not too big but sometimes strong enough to require effort not to be submerged, swimming here often leaves me splashed, as the waves can be large. At Mỹ Khê, when I feel a bit tired from paddling in the water and need a break, I'll go to the shore, lie down leaning against the white sand, and gaze at the distant Sơn Trà Mountain range with the large white statue of the Goddess of Mercy. On the first evening in Da Nang, I witnessed the breathtaking pink-purple sunset at this beach, a moment of indescribable tranquility...
Marble Mountains Area
Situated on the right side of the coast is the Marble Mountains area, another place you can't miss when traveling to Da Nang. This area is famous for the Non Nuoc stone carving village, where exquisite art products are crafted from marble, renowned both nationally and internationally. The area features the beautiful relic of Hang Pagoda, with temples nestled on the mountainside and inside caves. The stone-carved statues of Buddha in the caves (resembling skylights) leave a lasting impression... The temples within Huyen Khong Cave and Van Khong Cave still bear traces of the ancient Champa people. Additionally, on Marble Mountains, there are two ancient and revered temples: Tam Tai Temple and Linh Ung 1 Temple (one of the three Linh Ung temples in Da Nang).
2/What's Special about Hoi An
Prominent on the Central Vietnam tourist trail, Hoi An's ancient town is like a simple, rustic, and poetic painting. Whether day or night, Hoi An tourism carries different enchanting beauties.
Bridge Pagoda
Location: The bridge spans across a stream leading to the Thu Bon River, bordering between Nguyen Thi Minh Khai and Tran Phu streets.
Bridge Pagoda is a gem in the heart of Hoi An. Constructed in the late 16th century, it is known as the Japanese Bridge. In the middle of the bridge, there is a small temple dedicated to the Huyen Thien Dai De deity. The bridge's unique roof and decorative structures showcase a harmonious blend of Vietnamese, Chinese, Japanese, and Western architectural styles.
Phuc Kien Assembly Hall
Location: 46 Tran Phu Street
According to legend, the predecessor of the Phuc Kien Assembly Hall was a small shrine dedicated to the goddess Thien Hau Thanh Mau (the protector of sailors navigating the high seas), discovered on the Hoi An coast in 1697. Through numerous renovations, mainly contributed by the Phuc Kien Chinese community, the assembly hall became more splendid, contributing to the embellishment of the architectural appearance of Hoi An's ancient town.
Chaozhou Assembly Hall
Location: 92B Nguyen Duy Hieu.
Built in 1845 by the Chinese community from Chaozhou, the Assembly Hall worships the General Ma Vien - a deity skilled in controlling the winds and waves, ensuring prosperous sea trade. The hall holds special architectural value with its intricate wooden frame, decorative carvings, and beautiful porcelain sculptures.
Guangdong Assembly Hall
Location: 176 Tran Phu
Constructed in 1885 by the Guangdong Chinese community, initially dedicated to Thien Hau Thanh Mau and Confucius, later, after 1911, it shifted to worshiping Guan Gong and the state ancestors. The rational use of wood and stone in the load-bearing structure, along with detailed decorations, gives the Assembly Hall a unique and beautiful appearance. Every year on the Lantern Festival, Guan Gong's day (24th of the 6th lunar month), a solemn festival attracts many participants at this location.
Tan Ky Old House
Built nearly 200 years ago, Tan Ky House features the characteristic architecture of Hoi An's townhouses, with an interior divided into multiple sections, each serving a specific function. The front of the house serves as a storefront, while the back connects to the riverbank for shipping and receiving goods.
Constructed with traditional materials and crafted by local carpenters and artisans, the house exhibits a unique, nimble, elegant, warm, and cozy charm, while also reflecting influences from various architectural styles in the region. On February 17, 1990, Tan Ky House was recognized as a National Historic and Cultural Site.

The culinary map of Central Vietnam is incredibly diverse and distinctive. The dishes have a unique and hard-to-find flavor elsewhere.
Hue beef noodle soup
A familiar dish, but it feels truly different when eaten in its 'birthplace' - Hue. The white noodles stand out, accompanied by pink hued meatballs (made from raw beef and crab meat), soft and flavorful hoof slices, with a touch of spicy fish sauce and lime, making it both spicy and hot. Bun bo stalls can be found on every street in Hue.
Hoi An Street Chicken Rice
A dish no longer unfamiliar to international travelers and seems to have become a must-try when visiting Hoi An. The rice is cooked with fragrant, sticky rice, marinated with spices, and then cooked with boiled chicken broth. Choose young chicken, after boiling, it will be shredded, mixed with onions, fried onions, salt, pepper, and coriander, finally placed on top of rice. Hoi An Street Chicken Rice is often served with onions, pickled papaya, Tra Que herbs, sesame, chili sauce, and chicken broth... When traveling to Hoi An, enjoy Street Chicken Rice at Mrs. Buoi's (26 Phan Chau Trinh), Mrs. Huong - Kiet's alley (Sica), Mrs. Minh's (Phan Chau Trinh street), Mrs. Dung's (Ly Thuong Kiet), Mr. Xi's (Ba Le Kiet)...
Cao Lau Hoi An
As one of the most distinctive specialties in Hoi An, although a bit choosy due to the slightly dry and tough noodles, it attracts diners with tender, fragrant slices of meat and a sauce that is sour, spicy, and slightly sweet...
