Travel experiences on April 30th show that almost every destination is crowded with tourists. Choosing the right place will determine 50% of the success of your trip.
Experience of traveling on April 30th: How to have a splendid holiday?
I never choose famous places like Nha Trang, Da Lat, Hoi An, Sapa, Ha Giang... because even before going, I was sure it would be a disaster. So where should you go during the April 30th - May 1st holiday?
If you like high mountainous areas with cool and fresh air, in the Southern region, besides Da Lat, there is also Bao Loc (in Lam Dong province), just 180 km from Ho Chi Minh City, much closer. A bit further away, you can go to Buon Me Thuot, Pleiku, or Mang Den in Kon Tum. These places will have very few tourists. Only those who love nature and want to experience more than just simple entertainment and fun come here.

And if you prefer beach travel? Forget about names like Phu Quoc, Nam Du, Ly Son, Binh Ba, Da Nang. Why? Too crowded. The beaches in these places are incredibly beautiful, but you should come during off-peak times. Alternative destinations could be: Binh Tien area, Rai Cave in Ninh Thuan, Phu Quy Island in Binh Thuan, the beautiful and extremely pristine beach in Tuy Hoa, Eo Gio, Ky Co in Binh Dinh, Lang Co Beach - Hue...
For those who crave adventure and wish to immerse themselves in the wild, nowhere beats Quang Binh with its focal point being Phong Nha - Ke Bang National Park. While Son Doong is famous and has its own requirements, other spots like Dark Cave, Tu Lan Cave, and Swallow Cave offer much cheaper but equally magnificent and impressive experiences.
Last year on April 30th, I deliberated over various destinations for my trip, going back and forth. Ultimately, I settled on Phu Yen. It was fantastic; very few tourists, wide and spacious streets, and affordable dining with no scams. The room rates were reasonable, and I had booked them a month in advance.
Traveling by motorbike or bus?
For destinations close to your location, within 300 km, I advocate traveling by motorbike for more control and a richer experience. However, for longer distances, choose a bus or other means of transport, and then rent a motorbike later. Though the cost may be slightly higher, it compensates for the time saved and safeguards your health.
As mentioned earlier, when I embarked on a motorbike trip to Phu Yen during the April 30th holiday, living in Saigon, I had to cover a distance of over 500 km. I chose the bus: boarded at 6 pm, and by 6 am the next day, I was in Tuy Hoa. I had pre-booked a room and a bike, picked up the bike here, and set off freely and comfortably.
How to choose an economical room?
For budget travelers, saving costs is a significant concern, especially when it comes to accommodation expenses. Can you find a good room, centrally located, and affordable? Yes, but it takes a lot of time, effort, and sharpness.

Firstly, about two months before the trip, plan your itinerary and embark on the quest for a room. I usually search on online booking websites. This method is quick, with vivid, visually appealing images and comprehensive information on price, location, inclusive and exclusive services. Traveler reviews of their past stays are my primary reference for deciding whether to book a room or not.
Almost every time, luck has been on my side. In Phu Yen, I booked a hotel in downtown Tuy Hoa for only 180,000 VND per night. The room was clean, spacious, with a view of fields and Chop Chai mountain. The staff was very friendly and helped me a lot. Another time, I booked a room in Bao Loc for 150,000 VND per night, an unbeatable price with a vast difference in quality compared to the cost.
How to handle the issue of overpricing?
In general, major tourist destinations during the April 30th holiday may witness instances of overpricing, not too many but enough to leave a negative impression. I avoid places with excessive crowds, so I rarely encounter this situation. However, if you plan to travel to such places, consider the following.
Before you go, research places that have been reported for overpricing. Keep in mind that changing the name and replacing it with an entirely new name is quite common. Visit places with many local license plates and local people. Many places may seem entirely with local license plates, but in reality, they are all rented by tourists.
Exploring a restaurant's menu is always exciting, but watch out for those prices that may change unexpectedly. If they decide to hike up the costs, there's not much you can do. Keep the hotline numbers of relevant authorities handy. In case the worst happens, make that call to voice your concerns and get timely assistance.
What to do when recreational areas, entertainment spots, and tourist destinations get overcrowded?
During the April 30th holiday, heading to Nha Trang or Da Lat, places like Lang Biang Mountain can be a bit overwhelming due to the crowds. However, opting for an early visit or choosing less crowded spots can make a significant difference. In Phu Yen, the busiest area is the rocky Ghenh Da Dia, but I prefer spending more time exploring nearby areas like fishing villages, rice fields - a more relaxed way to enjoy the serene countryside.
While everyone flocks to Bai Mon and the Mui Dien lighthouse, I head straight to Vung Ro Bay, passing through Deo Ca, then taking the national highway back to Tuy Hoa. Along the way, capture the vast expanses of rice fields in the coastal plains of Central Vietnam. Planning the route and time carefully to avoid missed opportunities is key.
Wishing everyone a leisurely and joyful April 30th holiday.
