Nowadays, staircases are adorned with tiles from over 60 countries.
Approximately 300 pieces were repainted by Selaron, depicting a pregnant African woman – also his most famous masterpiece.

To this day, Selaron's staircase is a quite appealing tourist spot in the city of Rio de Janeiro. It has been featured in numerous magazines, media outlets, international programs, and even documentaries, while making appearances in advertisements for brands such as American Express, Coca Cola, Kellogg’s Corn Flakes, Time, and Playboy.
This setting has also served as the backdrop for countless music videos by global artists.

It's worth noting that these stairs have played a role in transforming the fate of the region, once a poverty-stricken slum, now bustling with tourists.
Restaurants and bars have sprung up at the foot of the staircase to cater to visitors, all thanks to Selaron.
Selaron once declared, 'This crazy and unique dream only ends on the day I depart.' Indeed, in 2013, Jorge Selaron was discovered dead mysteriously on the stairs he devoted 20 years to.
