Facebook itself acknowledges that the design of Messenger has become too cluttered. In a blog post, David Marcus, Vice President of Facebook's Messaging division, announced that the company would soon release a simplified version of Facebook Messenger, aiming to reduce clutter. Keeping true to its promise, the social media giant has just rolled out the new, simplified version of Facebook Messenger, streamlining the app interface for users.
Finally, Facebook Messenger has undergone simplification.
Messenger 4 brings a significant reduction in clutter on the app interface by cutting down the number of tabs from 9 to just 3. Users can now access both one-on-one and group chats directly on the Chats tab. Their friends' list, stories, and active users are grouped under the People tab. The Discover tab includes pages and games, remaining in its familiar place at the bottom right corner of the main screen.

If you frequently capture and share photos via Messenger, you can directly access the Camera feature at the top right corner of the screen. Additionally, you can see who is playing games or making video calls with icons displayed next to their usernames. Learn how to make video calls on Facebook here.
In addition, the Messenger update allows users to customize the color of chat bubbles in conversations with various color palettes. This means you can change the chat color from purple to blue or any color of your choice.
Facebook also emphasizes to users that despite the streamlined interface of the new Messenger update, reduced from 9 to just 3 tabs, all features remain available on the app. This means users can still conduct polls directly, share locations, play games, and initiate group video chats. In addition to the redesigned and refreshed interface to reduce clutter, Messenger 4 also introduces a trial version of Dark Mode, expected to be integrated in future app updates.
