Experience the Splendor of Angkor Wat

Situated 317km north of the capital Phnom Penh, the Angkor Wat temple complex was constructed around the mid-12th century by King Suryavarman II, dedicated to the Hindu god Vishnu, and served as the epicenter of a civilization flourishing from the 9th to the 15th century. With over 100 temples of varying sizes in Angkor, all restored for archaeological significance, the entire area is a UNESCO World Heritage site. In 1991, the Angkor Wat temple was recognized by UNESCO as a World Cultural Heritage site. Our transportation to the central ticket office was facilitated by a pass featuring the image of visitors valid until 5 pm, priced at $37 to explore the entire Angkor area.
Our vehicle circled around a lake, passing through lush greenery, with the beautiful sunrise, and stopped right at the gate. An attendant checked tickets onboard instead of requiring passengers to disembark, similar to other areas. Due to the vast expanse of temple grounds and the high volume of tourists, shuttle vehicles were provided for transportation within the area. Early the next morning, the sight of five prominent towers in the distance filled everyone with excitement. We crossed a swaying pontoon bridge, surrounded by blooming lotus flowers. Along the path to the towers, vendors offered water for 10,000 Vietnamese dong per bottle or 2 ria for a cup, which everyone eagerly tried.

At the intersection leading to souvenir stalls, there was a large pool of water, with the towers casting reflections, adding to the enchanting scene. Vendors enthusiastically offered various goods, often at prices up to five times higher, but bargaining was possible. However, the mesmerizing sight of the towering structures reaching into the gray sky for over 14 centuries kept us moving. It was truly breathtaking to behold the stone towers. Ancient shadowy corridors bore witness to countless footsteps, guiding us from one corner to another. A sense of wonder filled the air. And just that sensation alone, feeling as if we had left our mark on ancient soil, layering our footprints atop those of countless others who had visited Angkor Wat.
