Big bikes have always been an impressive sight on the streets, capturing the attention of those around. Simply because otherwise, no one would have a passion for riding and be willing to spend a large amount on bikes that are hardly used to their full capacity on Vietnamese streets.

In the history of the gaming world, the image of the prominent 'beefy' motorcycle has also been favored by many manufacturers. Since the early days of primitive gaming machines, there have been renowned products related to bike riding or racing sports associated with this special type of 2-wheeled vehicle. Perhaps in your childhood, you've 'collided' with some big bike games but momentarily couldn't recall. Let us jog your memory a bit!
Excitebike – NES
The name easily brings to mind the Exciter series, one of the most classic and iconic big bike racing games. Excitebike debuted in 1984 for the Famicom system (the Japanese and Asian version of NES).
As a primitive game, its features are not overly complex. It's a game about off-road racing, quite similar to today's dirt bike racing format. Players control a racer in a red outfit and bike, maneuvering through obstacles, and balancing the bike to overtake opponents and reach the finish line first.
Biker Mice from Mars – SNES
While the name Biker Mice from Mars may sound unfamiliar, Vietnamese gamers are more accustomed to the Harley racing title when it comes to this product. It's a particularly enticing game that throws players into large-displacement bike races on circular tracks with a rock-heavy soundtrack.
Names like Modo, Throttle, Vinnie, Karbunkle... and the competitive situations around every turn will make many relive their childhood memories of sneaking out to play games. Biker Mice from Mars is a product of the renowned Konami game company, released in 1994 on the Super NES system.
Road Rash – PC
Just mentioning this name brings back memories of high-speed pursuits on big bikes. Road Rash is a primitive racing game produced by Electronic Arts (EA) since 1991 for the Sega Genesis system. However, Vietnamese gamers mostly know this brand through the 3rd edition released in 1994 for PC and later consoles. The original version was rougher both in graphics and gameplay.
The game takes inspiration from illegal street races of motorcycle gangs. That's why you see rebellious hippie images along with dirty play like kicking bikes, hitting with sticks, and police chases. Even now, some gamers still keep a copy of this game installed on their machines to occasionally play again.
Trials – Multi-platform
The Trials series has been around for quite a while. It started with the first version in 2000 as a Java game. After successful evolution and continuous transformation, this series was invested in Xbox systems, and its latest representative is Trials Rising, released in 2019.
Trials explores big bikes in the form of off-road vehicle control technique. Players must maneuver their off-road bikes through challenging obstacle courses. The key to passing levels is controlling the bike's balance when jumping over obstacles to prevent crashes.
MotoGP – Multi-platform
Considered one of the most successful representatives in modern big bike racing games is MotoGP. This sports racing game has evolved over a long journey since 2000 with many events and annual successive versions up to the present day.
Similar to FIFA football games, MotoGP follows the official Moto Grand Prix racing system in real life. The game provides large-displacement bike races according to standard sports regulations and is equipped with modern AI every year to give players the most authentic experiences.
Notable Games
There are some titles that are worth mentioning but not significant enough to be included in the main list above. First, there's Road Redemption released in 2017. It's a game based on the concept of Road Rash but with modern graphics and features. It didn't receive as much acclaim as expected but still a fairly decent product.
The second racing game that has made its mark on many people's childhoods is Chocobo Racing, also known as chicken racing. This is a spin-off game that gathers classic characters from the Final Fantasy series into a racing game. You can meet Chocobo, Moggle, Black Mage, Bahamut... Each character has their own distinctive racing vehicle. However, the essence of big bikes isn't clearly depicted, so this game doesn't make it onto the list.
