Wild sunflowers, a wild and widespread flower species in the Central Highlands and many northern provinces, particularly associated with Dalat when it comes to the blooming season. Only here can you truly feel the expansive golden hue spreading across every street.
Explore the Radiant Blooms of Wild Sunflowers in Dalat this October
Wild sunflowers, also known as daisies, cúc quỳ, sơn quỳ, or wild sun, are a type of daisy with vibrant yellow-orange colors, growing rapidly and typically blooming from late autumn to early winter (lasting from around October to the end of November every year).

In Vietnam, wild sunflowers were initially introduced by the French for cultivation in plantations in Lam Dong province. They were used to produce green fertilizer for rubber and coffee plantations due to the beneficial nutrient compounds promoting plant growth.

With suitable climate and soil conditions, gradually, wild sunflowers were extensively cultivated in many areas. Unknowingly, wild sunflowers have become the iconic flower of Dalat city.

Marking not only the end of the rainy season, but also the time when travelers flock to the city of Da Lat, immersing themselves in the dreamy scenery and, above all, in the wild yellow of the cosmos flowers. Although not as large as sunflowers, cosmos flowers, with their bushy growth, create a brilliant carpet of yellow when blooming. That golden hue warms the chilly plateau along with the sunlight, enchanting anyone who stumbles upon it.

Cosmos flowers are most beautiful in the morning, when the winter sun is just rising, and dew still lingers on the leaves and petals. You can witness the sun-kissed yellow of cosmos flowers anywhere, from the heart of the city next to charming small villas to the roads branching out in all directions. To truly immerse yourself in the alluring yellow of cosmos flowers, choose a motorbike as your companion, allowing you to navigate through various roads, hillsides, or narrow alleys where cosmos flowers proudly display their colors. The outskirts of the city are where cosmos flowers thrive the most.
Some notes for flower hunting

The ideal time to capture photos of cosmos flowers is from 9 to 10 in the morning or around 3 to 5 in the afternoon when the sunlight is gentle, and the flowers have a soft yellow hue, not too intense.
The weather in Da Lat during this season can be quite cold, so you should prepare warm clothes, scarves, gloves, etc. Additionally, bring mosquito repellent and allergy medicine as you venture into dense vegetation.
Routes with fog or limited visibility in the evening due to mist are common, so plan your itinerary carefully and avoid riding late in the evening. Equip yourself with reflective patches/clothing for added safety during your journey.
Absolutely avoid picking flowers, breaking scenery, maintain general hygiene in the flower areas, so that later arriving tourists also have the opportunity to admire the beauty.
