Google has recently introduced 3D views (in flycam orbit video format) for renowned global landmarks, with over 100 locations now available for exploration.
This feature is accessible on the Web platform, the Google Maps app on both iOS and Android. Make sure to update your Google Maps to the latest version to start exploring!
At first glance, you might think it resembles a simple flycam scene, orbiting around that famous location, but it's not as simple as that. This viewing mode is called 3D Immersive View by Google, created using algorithms and data from billions of satellite images, along with imagery from Google's Street View, combined to produce the videos we see. Instantly recognizable landmarks include Alcatraz Island in San Francisco, the Big Ben tower in London, and the Empire State Building in New York.
Bicycle navigation feature is soon to be updated. In this latest update, alongside the 3D Immersive View feature, Google is also adding features like bicycle navigation (soon to be updated), unlimited-time location sharing, and more information (already updated). You can explore right on Google Maps.
Currently, the 3D Immersive View only allows for simple video viewing. When fully updated, you'll be able to access additional information such as weather, sun direction, day and night cycles, and many other exciting features.
Below are some locations with 3D Immersive View:
