When considering Thailand's beaches, think about three types: beautiful, untouched with affordable prices; moderately priced hotels near shopping and cheap dining; and beach clusters suitable for resort vacations with relatively higher room rates.
Thailand has all types of beaches, but which ones are the best? Here are some suggestions for you.
1. Kata & Karon Beach, Phuket
In Phuket, choosing the right beach is not simple due to the multitude of options. Whether you seek bustling places like Patong or prefer quieter spots, Kata and Karon beaches offer the ideal combination of serenity and Phuket's beauty.
2. Sairee Beach, Koh Tao
Sairee in Koh Tao is the main beach of the underwater paradise, featuring upscale resorts, budget-friendly hotels, and affordable hostels. Diving is the most popular water sport in Sairee, renowned for its breathtaking scenery and straight palm-lined stretches.
3. Beaches on the Railay Peninsula
Railay Peninsula hosts some of the world's best beaches, uniquely free from car traffic, with only a few resorts and stunning landscapes. Staying right on the beach can be quite pricey ($1000/night), but there are more budget-friendly resort options nearby.
4. Pranang Cave Beach, Railay
Pranang Cave Beach is considered the precious gem of the Railay Peninsula. With its magnificent landscape, towering limestone cliffs, and mysterious caves, it rightfully claims the title of the most beautiful beach on the west coast. However, Pranang has only one resort – the globally renowned Rayavadee. This exclusivity can make finding accommodation challenging, especially during peak tourist seasons.
5. Koh Nang Yuan, near Koh Tao
Off the coast of Koh Tao lies a small island with unique features rarely found anywhere else in the world, particularly the day-time activities. Due to the tide fluctuations and shifting sands, sometimes the beach seems to vanish.
6. Sunrise and Sunset Beaches, Koh Lipe
Sunrise and Sunset in Koh Lipe are another paradise. Similar to Railay Peninsula, there's no car traffic here, just a few motorbikes, and most people prefer to travel on foot. True to their names, Sunrise and Sunset beaches are ideal spots for admiring both dawn and dusk. Additionally, the crystal-clear waters add to the allure of this location.
