In 1925, to safeguard the white-cheeked crested pheasant (Lophura edwardsi), local authorities proposed establishing a 50,000-hectare national park to the French Colonial Department. In 1932, the Bạch Mã forest was discovered, and a resort area was proposed by Mr. M.Girard, an engineer with the French authorities.

In 1942, a resort area from an altitude of 1,200m to the summit of Bạch Mã was fully developed with a community comprising 139 villas, markets, post offices, restaurants, grocery stores, and a small car road. In 1991, Bạch Mã National Park was officially established to conserve the local biodiversity.

To date, the national park covers a natural area of 37,423.10 ha, reduced by 63.90 ha due to the investment project to build the Hồ Chí Minh Road section from La Sơn to Túy Loan. The park is home to 2,147 plant species, 1,493 animal species, and approximately 900 insect species.

Bạch Mã National Park is a source of pride for the people of Huế, owning landscapes as beautiful as a painting. Conquering the Vọng Hải Đài, enjoying a refreshing swim in Ngũ Hồ, and trekking the majestic Đỗ Quyên waterfall offer fascinating experiences.

Bạch Mã National Park is situated on the border of Thừa Thiên Huế and Quảng Nam provinces. Its majestic nature and diverse wildlife provide numerous captivating experiences. Among the favorites are trekking and admiring the Đỗ Quyên waterfall.

The summit of Bạch Mã is a favorite among tourists. With an elevation of approximately 1,450m, the Hải Vọng Đài offers panoramic views, allowing you to see the distant Lăng Cô Bay, undulating mountains, and meandering rivers.

In the buffer zone surrounding the national park, four ethnic groups – Kinh, Cơ tu, Vân Kiều, Mường – live in close-knit communities beneath the forest canopy. Their main activities include rice cultivation, animal husbandry, and cultivating forestry.

Continuing the exploration of Bạch Mã National Park, head to the Ngũ Hồ area, comprising five interconnected large and small lakes, forming a stream system. This region, located around 2km from Vọng Hải Đài by road, is a popular resting spot for its clear waters, where travelers pause to relax, dine, and enjoy the cool air around the stream.

Upon returning to the foothills of Bạch Mã, venture into the Truồi Lake area, spanning about 400 hectares and built for irrigating fields. Rent a drifting boat on the lake and marvel at the charming scenery.

Amidst the lake stands the Linh Sơn mountain, shrouded in mist throughout the year. The Trúc Lâm Bạch Mã Zen Monastery, solemn and grand, is one of the largest monasteries in the country. Exploring the monastery, visitors discover winding paths, main halls, meditation rooms, all harmoniously designed with nature, creating a feeling of being in a celestial realm, detached from the outside world.
