Last Tuesday, Google released the final standard version of Chrome 7 (build 78.0.3904.70) for users of Windows, Linux, macOS, Android, iOS, and ChromeOS. It introduces several new features, including the Password Checkup tool (to check if user passwords have been compromised) and some additional customization options for the New Tab page. However, the most significant improvement from the Chrome user's perspective is the default Forced Dark Mode option, which will display dark mode for every website, regardless of user support.

It's important to emphasize that while some features will be automatically enabled, others require manual activation by accessing the chrome://flags section. To enable dark mode, users need to activate the Chrome flag at chrome://flags/#enable-force-dark . Additionally, to activate other customization features, users must enable two Chrome flags: chrome://flags/#ntp-customization-menu-v2 and chrome://flags/#chrome-colors .
The Password Checkup tool will not be activated by default, meaning users who want to use it will have to activate it through chrome://flags/#password-leak-detection . Chrome 78's web browser also provides tooltips when hovering over nearby tabs; however, many may find this more bothersome than effective. Therefore, you can disable it through the Chrome flag chrome://flags/#tab-hover-cards .
Chrome 78 no longer includes the old XSS Auditor security feature, a function introduced in Chrome 4 back in 2009. Although it helped prevent hackers from injecting malicious scripts into websites, it became a useless remnant of outdated website standards. That's why Chrome developers decided to remove this feature. Another new feature is the DNS-over-HTTPS (DoH) protocol, helping conceal feedback and DNS queries in regular HTTPS traffic.
