Although renowned for its coastal tourism, Nha Trang also leaves a lasting impression with its mountain tourism. One such experience is cloud hunting atop Ba Cum Pass, resembling cloud hunting in the Northwestern highlands.
Explore Cloud Hunting atop Ba Cum Pass in Nha Trang

Located 100km southwest of Nha Trang city, Khanh Son district is an ideal destination for travelers who appreciate cool mountain air and the pristine wilderness of the mountains. After traversing the mountain pass, visitors experience gazing upon a sea of clouds amidst the chilly air.

Khanh Son district boasts unique attractions compared to the islands and coastlines to the east. It is the homeland of the Raglai people, known for their cultural practices of gongs, Chapi drums, and traditional dances. Situated at an altitude of 800m above sea level, Khanh Son enjoys a cool climate and majestic nature along its mountain passes.

Along the route from Khanh Son Pass to Ba Cum Bac commune, travelers will have the opportunity to admire the sea of clouds below in the valley. Cloud hunting is not confined to a specific destination but rather a journey. Travelers can stop at their preferred spots to admire the drifting clouds.

Travelers should depart early and arrive at the cloud hunting spot around 6:30 a.m. From 7 a.m. to 9 a.m. is usually when clouds appear at the foot of the mountain. However, the presence of clouds depends on the weather. On days without sun, windy, and rainless, it's difficult to spot clouds the next morning. During the rainy season, days with light rain and humidity make cloud hunting easier the following morning.

The cloud sea in Khanh Son not only appears once a day like in Da Lat or Northwest Vietnam but often multiple times from 7 a.m. to 9 a.m. This makes it easy for Nha Trang tourists to see the cloud sea even if they wake up late. The cloud hunting spot on Ba Cum pass is about 20km from Ta Gu waterfall. Travelers should walk in the direction of the suspension bridge for safety rather than the other direction.

Here, you can admire the waterfall cascading from a height of 40m and immerse yourself in the clear and cool water. Your experience will be complete with a meal by the stream featuring grilled meat, bamboo rice, and wild vegetables. If you visit in early June, you also have the chance to enjoy delicious local fruits such as pomelo, rambutan, mangosteen, and durian...
