Immerse yourself in the artistic ambiance at the Ho Chi Minh City Art Museum with extraordinary backdrops
The Ho Chi Minh City Art Museum was established in 1987 and officially opened its doors to visitors in 1989, located at 97 Pho Duc Chinh, District 1, Ho Chi Minh City.

According to historical records, the Ho Chi Minh City Art Museum was once the mansion of a Chinese-Vietnamese entrepreneur named Hua Bon Hoa. He was one of the wealthiest and most renowned figures in Saigon, owning other famous landmarks such as the Majestic Hotel, Tu Du Hospital, and the Saigon Emergency Center. The building harmoniously blends Eastern (Chinese) and Western (French) architectural styles, designed by the French architect Rivera in 1929 and completed in 1934.

The museum's exhibition space is divided into two main categories: ancient and modern art, featuring over 22,000 artifacts, precious collections, and national treasures that reflect the distinctive artistic features of Saigon and the Southern region. Today, the museum has become a major art center in Vietnam, housing numerous sculptures, paintings, and historical art artifacts of the country and humanity, including high-value artworks like the lacquer painting 'Spring Garden in North Central South' by the famous artist Nguyen Gia Tri.

This magnificent building stands within an expansive area of 3,514m², showcasing an Art-deco architectural style. It seamlessly blends the artistic influences of both Asia and Europe. Notably, it is the first structure in Saigon to incorporate elevators into its design.

The architectural focal point lies at the main entrance on the first floor, featuring a lofty covered foyer, grand columns supporting the roof, and flanked by staircases on either side. The arched design of the entrance is adorned with ornate ironwork depicting the initials H.B.H, representing Hua Bon Hoa, the visionary behind this masterpiece. At the rear gate of the museum, a plaque commemorates the names of the building's owners, mostly members of Hua Bon Hoa's family.

The Ho Chi Minh City Fine Arts Museum currently comprises a basement and three floors. Two longitudinal and two transverse house rows form a harmonious enclosed structure, creating a skylight at the heart of the building. The basement serves as office space and an exhibition area for paintings.

Key Points to Note When Visiting the Ho Chi Minh City Fine Arts Museum:
– On the right side of the main hall is the storage area for belongings. If you bring bulky or heavy items, you can securely leave them here while exploring.
– During your visit, remember not to touch the displayed artifacts. Since the exhibited artworks are original and not enclosed in glass, touching them could cause damage. In case of accidental contact, the anti-theft sensor will alert the staff.
– The second floor is considered the most picturesque photo spot. Therefore, make sure to have a fully charged phone along with stylish attire for some incredibly 'wow' photos.
