During this season, tourists flock to explore the crimson orchards, home to tangy red fruits (also known as sour fruits, ground strawberries, or earthy berries) on the Van Hoa plateau (Son Hoa district, Phu Yen).
Travel to Phu Yen to admire the crimson orchards and indulge in the tart sweetness of red fruits
Red fruits have a tangy taste when eaten from the lower branches, while those picked from the top are less sour and have a sweeter flavor.
The crimson trees reach heights of about 5-7 meters and are interspersed among jackfruit and fragrant trees in the Van Hoa plateau (Son Hoa district, Phu Yen). With an elevation of 400 meters above sea level and a cool climate year-round, this area is ideal for these types of trees.
The red fruits grow in clusters from the tree trunk, cascading from the bottom to the top. Some trees are so large that two or three people can embrace them, with ripe red fruits encircling them, creating a beautiful sight.
Since last December, clusters of tiny grayish fruits have been emerging on the branches, gradually enlarging and reddening. By the end of the lunar July, the red fruits have started to ripen slowly, but they only fully ripen before and after the Mid-Autumn Festival.
This is the time when traders start visiting the orchards to select trees with ripe fruits to buy, pick, and transport to the markets. It's also the time when photography enthusiasts venture into the orchards to find beautiful angles.
In recent years, as the red fruit season reaches its peak, throngs of tourists from various places flock to the red fruit orchards in Son Xuan commune, Phu Yen province, for sightseeing, photography, infusing this highland region with a new tourism vibe.
