Hon Mong Tay belongs to Duong Hoa commune, Kien Luong district, located offshore of Kien Giang province, north of Phu Quoc island, amidst the Ba Lua archipelago and the Pirate Islands. During the war, this place served as a refuge for displaced people. Today, due to harsh conditions, the island does not have a dense population. However, this has become an attractive factor for travelers seeking the feeling of solitude or couples looking for absolute privacy.
Transportation
For approximately 1.6 million VND per person for a 4-day-3-night trip starting from Ho Chi Minh City, you will set foot in a beautiful wilderness destination that will leave you marveling in awe.
First Night
From the Western Bus Station, head straight to Ha Tien overnight with a ticket price of about 155,000 VND.
Second Day
Upon arriving at Ha Tien bus station in the morning, you can take a short rest or immediately transfer to the Ha Tien ferry terminal. Purchase tickets for the Ngoc Thanh high-speed boat to Phu Quoc at 215,000 VND per ticket.
Around 9 a.m., arrive at Phu Quoc. If it's crowded, you can rent a 30-seater car to go directly to An Thoi port. Alternatively, while on the high-speed boat, you can inquire about purchasing tickets for a shuttle to Duong Dong town for 30,000 VND per person, then catch a car to An Thoi port, the departure point for the boat to Hon Mong Tay island.
From 9:30 a.m. to 11 a.m., stop by to buy seafood, foam boxes, firewood, charcoal, drinks, and fruits to take to the island and enjoy as snacks at the roadside stalls.
At 11:30, board the boat to the island.
At 1 p.m., gather belongings at Hon May Rut Inner (Hon May Rut currently has two islands: Hon May Rut Inner and Hon May Rut Outer). Important items and personal documents should be kept in waterproof bags to avoid any damage.
At 2 p.m., take a boat to Hon Mong Tay to begin your exploration. You can camp, sightsee, swim, catch crabs, take photos, admire the sunset, and engage in many other exciting activities here.
From 5 p.m. onwards: Return to Hon May Rut Inner to spend the night, avoiding the risk of high tides in the evening. Remember to arrange with the boat driver for pick-up time. Hon May Rut Inner has fresh water available, which is quite convenient.
Third Day
Welcome the sunrise in the morning, have breakfast, then at 7 a.m., return to Hon Mong Tay to continue enjoying the waves, taking photos, and having fun.
At 11 a.m., return to Phu Quoc island to indulge in specialties at Dat Do beach, such as grilled chicken, and pickled herring salad...
At 2 p.m., set up camp at Sao beach for a rest, then take a stroll around to admire the scenery and take photos.
At 4 p.m., travel by car to Truong beach for sightseeing.
In the evening, camp at Sao beach after enjoying seafood and optionally take a freshwater dip (you can also rent a hotel room here if desired).
Fourth Day
If desired, you can visit some other landmarks in Phu Quoc in the morning.
By 9 a.m., head back to Vong beach to board the return boat at 10:45 to the mainland.
Around 1 p.m., you will take a car back to Saigon, concluding the journey.
