I had planned to conclude my journey through the northern Central region at Ngang Pass, the last point of Ha Tinh province bordering Quang Binh. This place once served as the boundary between Dai Viet and Chiem Thanh in history.
Ngang Pass, traversing the Hoanh Son range, is a crucial checkpoint on the North-South ancient trade route. It is renowned not only for its historical significance but also as a famous scenic spot in the sunny and windy central region. At the summit stands Hoanh Son Quan, built during the reign of Emperor Minh Mang of the Nguyen dynasty, still standing firm through the test of time... Ngang Pass has become a legend immortalized in literature and poetry.
In search of a rest stop before traversing the pass and the Hoanh Son range, I paused at Hoanh Son Beach. Situated right at the foot of Ngang Pass, more precisely at the intersection from National Highway 1A leading close to the coastal branch – one branch ascending the pass along the ancient road for a thousand years, another branch traversing Ngang Pass tunnel through the mountain, Hoanh Son Beach remains pristine and secluded...

Hoanh Son Beach is located in Ky Nam commune, Ky Anh district, Ha Tinh province – less than 2km away from the foot of Ngang Pass (following the North-South highway direction), on the other side lies Quang Binh province. Perhaps in this 'farthest' place, everything remains as untouched as the pass and the majestic Hoanh Son range.

Hoanh Son Beach is embraced and sheltered by the mountain range, offering serenity and tranquility; the water is clear, deep blue. This place inherits the climate and scenery of both the sea and the mountain forests. At the beach, one can witness the Hoanh Son range – a mountain range extending from the Truong Son range – reaching out to the East Sea. There are also rocky beaches extending from the mountains to the sea, reminiscent of the 'dancing rocks' found in many Central coastal beaches...

Hoanh Son Beach, though small and narrow, cannot match the grandeur of touristy beaches in the central region like Sam Son (Thanh Hoa) or Cua Lo (Nghe An)... Yet, it leaves a lasting impression with its majestic and untouched natural beauty, and the simplicity of local life.

Hoanh Son Beach is sure to captivate adventurers and explorers. Picture this: an evening on the beach, the sky overcast, deserted, and suddenly... a herd of cows appears. The Hoanh Son range meets the hazy blue sea, waves crashing onto the rocky shore... And envision, an evening on the pass as dusk falls; echoing the poetry of Ba Huyen Thanh Quan: 'A piece of love between me and myself...'.
