Guide on How to Reach Orchid Island
Before reaching Orchid Island, you need to get to Taitung County. From Taipei or Kaohsiung, you can take a train to Taitung with a cost starting from 400 NTD; travel time ranges from 2h30' to 4h30'.
1. Ferry
There are two ferry routes to Orchid Island, namely the Fugang – Lanyu route from Taitung and the Houbihu – Lanyu route from Houbi Lake in Kenting. During peak season, the Fugang – Lanyu route passes through Green Island, forming a 'triangle route.' Meanwhile, the Houbihu route operates mainly from mid-October to March the following year; this is because strong north winds during the winter season suspend this ferry route temporarily.

The ferry route is from Fugang Port in Taitung/Kenting (departure) – Lanyu – Taitung/Kenting (final destination). You can choose different embarkation and disembarkation points, for example: departing from Fugang Port in Taitung, arriving at Houbi Lake in Kenting.

- Taitung to Lanyu: 7:30 AM, 1:00 PM
- Kenting to Lanyu: 7:30 AM, 1:00 PM
- Lanyu to Taitung: 10:00 AM, 3:30 PM
- Lanyu to Kenting: 10:00 AM, 3:30 PM

Some Notes When Traveling to Orchid Island by Ferry
If departing from Houbi Lake, it's advisable to stay in Hengchun the night before and reach the ferry terminal by car or pre-arranged transportation, as local public transportation is inconvenient. If you want to use a local's motorcycle, you may pay a one-way fee of around 200NTD – 500NTD. If departing from Taitung, you can take the Puyuma train when traveling in a group. Sharing a ride for 4 people to Fugang Port costs around 250NTD – 400NTD.
2. By Air
Currently, only Daily Air offers round-trip flights to Lanyu. The airline uses a 19-seat DHC6 aircraft, with a flight time of approximately 20 minutes. Although the journey is short, it can be affected by various weather factors, and the number of seats is limited to 4. It's recommended to book 1-2 months in advance to ensure availability. If traveling with a larger group, it's more stable and convenient to take the ferry.

1. Dong Thanh Secret Scene
Beyond being a food distribution center, Dong Thanh is also the only place on the island with a 24/7 convenience store. When in Dong Thanh, don't miss the 'Dong Thanh Secret Scene' hidden in the trail. The water here is not deep, ranging in color from turquoise to navy, most strikingly visible when the sun shines. Surrounding this spot are three other scenic landmarks to plan a visit, namely Love Cave, Jade Head Mountain, and Dong Thanh Bay.


2. Verdant Meadow of Thanh Thanh
Located in the southwest is the Verdant Meadow of Thanh Thanh, an excellent spot to witness the sunset. Walking along the trail, the surrounding scenery becomes sharper, with the meadow extending to the edge of the cliffs, the hills sprawling to the horizon. It takes only about ten minutes to walk to the nearest sunset viewing point. Lanyu's sunset paints the sky golden, radiating a warmth you can't find anywhere else.

3. Yayu Elementary School
Known as the most beautiful elementary school on the island. Can you imagine the view of the blue sea outside the classroom window? Just thinking about it, you know these kids can grow up with the protection of the ocean. Pretty cool, right?

Mr. Bean Huabo, the owner of a tofu pudding stall, initially worked at the Lanyu Nuclear Waste Storage Facility. After retiring, he could focus on sharing his love for tofu pudding with everyone. The pudding here is rich and simple, but its delicious aroma is an unforgettable memory for many travelers.

3. Enjoy Egg Cakes at Dongqing 33 Chocolate Quiche
