Where is the Enchanting Ribbon Falls located?
Ribbon Falls, also known as “Nang Falls” or “Ban Vat Falls”, is situated in Mường La commune, Mộc Châu district, Sơn La province. The name 'Ribbon Falls' comes from the legend of a girl's ribbon saving a young man from the floodwaters. The falls are approximately 5 km from the center of Mộc Châu, following National Highway 43 towards the Lóng Sập border gate. At the Pa Háng intersection, you can drive along the main road or take the stream route for about 4 km to the confluence of the two streams where Ribbon Falls awaits.
Ribbon Falls lies along the Vat stream, originating from the waters of Bó Co Lắm and Bo Ta Cháu in Ban Vat – a village with a long history belonging to the Thai ethnic group. After flowing for about 5 km, the Vat stream merges with a larger stream starting from Bó Sập village (adjacent to the Vietnam-Laos border). At the confluence of these two streams, the water meets a limestone mountain, creating the majestic Ribbon Falls.

The Enchanting Ribbon Falls stands at a height of over 100 meters and is divided into two sections. The upper waterfall spans more than 70m with 9 tiers (reminiscent of the legendary '9 levels of love'), while the lower part has only 5 tiers and is approximately 200m away. A flat ground conveniently separates the two parts of the falls, providing an ideal space for tourists to explore and admire the breathtaking scenery.
Beneath the Bó Sập stream lie thousands of uniquely shaped rock slabs, accompanied by towering ancient trees larger than a person's embrace. The tree roots intertwine harmoniously as they cascade down into the stream. For a more extensive exploration, climbing to the top of the falls reveals a rich tapestry of vegetation. Moreover, from this vantage point, one can gaze upon the entire plateau and the majestic mountainous landscapes.
When is the best time to visit Ribbon Falls?
The Enchanting Ribbon Falls is usually at its most beautiful from April to October each year.
