1. Meiji powdered milk formulas 0 and 9
Meiji powdered milk formula 0 is a Japanese formula designed for babies aged 0-1, whereas Meiji powdered milk formula 9 is intended for toddlers aged 1-3. Below is the most 'standard' method of preparing Meiji formulas 0 and 9 that every mom should know:
1.1. How to prepare Meiji powdered milk formula 0
– Sterilize the milk bottle, utensils for mixing, and wash your hands thoroughly.
– Prepare hot water at around 70 degrees; mothers should avoid using mineral water to mix milk as it may result in nutrient deficiency. Water temperature that is too hot or too cold can affect the standardization of milk components, causing clumping or incomplete dissolution.
– Meiji powdered milk formula 0 Mixing Guide: For every scoop of 2.7 grams of Meiji powdered milk, mix it with 20 ml of hot water. Use only the scoop provided in the Meiji milk powder, as it is specifically designed for Meiji formula.
– Start by pouring about 2/3 of the warm 70-degree water into the milk bottle (for example, if a mother intends to prepare 200 ml of milk for the baby, pour about 140 ml of water into the bottle). Then add the powdered milk according to the formula into the bottle, shake well to dissolve the milk. Next, pour in a sufficient amount of boiled water to cool it to the required amount of milk for the baby to suckle. Shake it again to ensure the milk powder is fully dissolved.
– At this point, the milk is quite cool, but mothers should wait for a while to bring the temperature down to 38 – 40 degrees Celsius before allowing the baby to suckle. A quick way to cool the milk is to immerse the prepared milk bottle in cool water for about 2-3 minutes.
1.2. Meiji powdered milk formula 9 Mixing Guide
Compared to Meiji powdered milk formula 0, Meiji powdered milk formula 9 has a similar mixing process, only the water temperature for mixing can be as low as 50 degrees.
– Initially, mothers also need to sterilize the milk bottle, wash their hands thoroughly, and prepare hot water at around 50 – 70 degrees Celsius. Note not to use freshly boiled water for mixing, as the excessively high temperature can destroy the nutritional components in the milk.
– Meiji formula for formula 9: 1 scoop equals 5.6 grams of powdered milk mixed with 40 ml of water, so if each baby's feeding is 200 ml of milk, 5 scoops are needed.
– Start by pouring about 2/3 of the required amount of milk into the water, then add the powdered milk, shake, and finally pour the remaining cooled water to match the required milk quantity. Shake again to fully dissolve the powder.
– Mothers should let the milk cool to around 38 degrees Celsius before allowing the baby to drink, as high temperatures can cause burns.
2. Meiji Formula for Ready-to-Drink Milk Bars
In addition to powdered milk, Meiji also produces milk in bar form. The bar form is also known as 'condensed milk,' very convenient for mothers, especially during long outings. Furthermore, while powdered milk can only be used for 3 months after opening, the bar form allows mothers to use it as needed, making storage much easier.
However, due to the novelty of the bar form, many mothers are still unsure how to prepare milk for their child. Check our guide to prepare milk for your baby perfectly!
– The first thing mothers need to do is sterilize the milk preparation tools and wash their hands thoroughly.
– Take the appropriate number of milk bars based on the baby's age and weight.
Below is the recommended number of milk bars based on the baby's age and weight according to the instructions from the Japanese Meiji milk manufacturer.
– Next is the milk preparation step. Mothers should boil water and let it cool to around 70 degrees Celsius.
– Meiji ready-to-drink milk bar formula: each milk bar is mixed with 40 ml of water, so if you want to prepare 200 ml, you will need 5 bars.
– Start by pouring 2/3 of the required amount of water into the bottle, add the milk bar, shake thoroughly to dissolve. Then add the remaining water, shake again.
– Let the milk cool to around 38 – 40 degrees Celsius before giving it to the baby.
3. Some considerations when preparing Meiji formula for the baby
– Sterilizing the milk bottle, nipple... is extremely important because the baby's immune system is not fully developed in the early days, especially if not breastfed but given formula milk, extra attention is needed. Sterilizing the milk bottle and mixing utensils can be done with a sterilizing machine or, more simply, by boiling in boiling water for about 2-3 minutes.
– Mothers need to follow the formula precisely, neither making the milk too concentrated nor too diluted, as both cases are not good for the baby's development.
– It is advisable to use regular water for milk preparation instead of mineral water because mineral water lacks many minerals found in normal water.
– Mothers should check the temperature of the milk before giving it to the baby. A simple way to check is to drop a few drops on the wrist to see if it is hot or cool.
