Quang Nam Travel – Swaying across the bamboo bridge in Cam Dong

From the center of Nui Thanh district, follow National Highway 1 towards the sea for about 10km to encounter the pristine mangrove forest of Tam Giang, spanning over 50ha with numerous venerable trees like mangrove apple, sedge, bamboo, and reed densely clustered together.
The Tam Giang mangrove forest not only has the responsibility of combating climate change, wave protection, and environmental conservation but also serves as an ideal destination for travelers seeking to enjoy the fresh climate, mystical scenery, and fascinating wildlife.
Every year, this pristine mangrove forest attracts thousands of visitors for sightseeing. It's also an ideal location for couples to capture beautiful, unique, and romantic wedding photos.
The forest stretches across four hamlets: Dong Xuan, Dong An, Dong Binh, and Dong My (Tam Giang commune). Among them, the pristine mangrove forest in Dong Xuan hamlet is consciously and rigorously protected by the local community.
According to the elderly, the people here have long considered the forest as reserved for the village, prohibiting any form of destruction.
Residents of Dong Xuan hamlet recall that until the 1980s, the surroundings of Tam Giang commune were enveloped by mangrove forests covering nearly 200 hectares. Between 1995-2000, people extensively cleared the forests for white-legged shrimp farming, but Dong Xuan hamlet staunchly preserved their portion.
At present, the pristine forest acts as a shield for the village, hosting approximately 500 venerable mangrove trees with diameters ranging from 30-50cm and an age exceeding 200 years. Beneath the canopy of these ancient trees, diverse and mysterious vegetation, including mangrove apples, sedge, and bamboo, thrives in harmony.
To safeguard the forest, the residents of Dong Xuan hamlet have established clear regulations; anyone violating them will face penalties.
In early 2015, the People's Committee of Nui Thanh district allocated 3.2 billion VND for a project to plant 27 hectares of mangrove forest in Tam Giang commune, addressing climate change. The project aimed to counteract wave impact with a density of 6,666 trees per hectare, enriching and diversifying this mangrove forest.
