Lào Cai – Ô Quy Hồ Pass – Lai Châu
Ô Quy Hồ Pass, also known as Hoàng Liên Sơn Pass, stands out as one of the longest, most treacherous, and majestic mountain passes in Northwestern Vietnam. Situated along National Highway 4D traversing the Hoàng Liên Sơn mountain range, this pass connects Lào Cai and Lai Châu provinces, with its summit marking the boundary between the two. Dubbed the “Cloud Pass” due to its perpetually mist-covered peak, Ô Quy Hồ is nearly 50 kilometers long, boasting unrivaled altitude, peril, and length in the Northwestern mountainous region, earning it the unofficial title of the “king of passes in Northwestern Vietnam.”

Exploring Ô Quy Hồ Pass at any time of the year promises heart-stopping experiences. Spanning nearly 50 kilometers, this pass unveils the majestic beauty of Hoàng Liên Valley, Silver Waterfall, and Heaven's Gate. With a peak altitude of 2,035 meters, Ô Quy Hồ Pass is classified among Vietnam's four great mountain passes and is a must-visit for any avid adventurer.
Mã Pí Lèng Pass
Mã Pí Lèng Pass, situated in the Northeastern mountainous region, is another thrilling motorcycle route sure to evoke new sensations. Often likened to Vietnam's Great Wall, it traverses the Dong Van Karst Plateau. Mã Pí Lèng Pass, stretching approximately 20 kilometers with a height of over 1,200 meters, lies along the Happiness Road, connecting Hà Giang City, Đồng Văn Town, and Mèo Vạc Township. Despite being the shortest, Mã Pí Lèng is deemed the most stunning and majestic among the “four great mountain passes.”

The ideal time to conquer Mã Pí Lèng Pass falls between October and November, during the transitional period from autumn to winter. With clear, sunny weather and no clouds, this season offers the perfect conditions to capture the most beautiful moments of nature.
Điện Biên – Pha Đin Pass – Sơn La
This pass presents quite a challenging terrain, with its highest point reaching 1,648 meters above sea level. One side is sheer cliffs, while the other side plunges into a deep abyss, creating a precarious path.
Ascending and descending the pass, the winding road features 8 extremely dangerous hairpin turns, with curves having a radius of less than 15 meters. Additionally, there are numerous switchbacks, hairpins, and zigzags, some of which are barely wide enough for a single car to pass through.

Atop the Pha Đin Pass, clouds often shroud the landscape, while below lies scattered villages. Standing on the pass's slope overlooking Điện Biên Province, travelers can witness the expansive Muong Quai valley, adorned with lush green hills and distant villages of Tuần Giáo district. However, nearing the summit, villages become scarce, replaced by vast skies and majestic mountainous forests blending seamlessly.

One of the most fascinating aspects here is that you'll still see daylight at 7-8 p.m.
Don't miss the Thanh Luong hot spring, where mineral hot springs flow from the heart of the mountain, maintaining a temperature of 60°C year-round. Adjacent to it is the pristine Pe Luong artificial lake, surrounded by lush hills and trees, creating a harmonious blend of heaven and earth. This ecological tourism spot offers hot spring baths and health retreats, attracting an increasing number of visitors seeking relaxation and healing.

Sơn La – Mai Châu – Hoà Bình
Among all the mentioned routes, this is perhaps the easiest one to undertake. Stretching over 250km, this flat asphalt road presents no significant mountain passes, unlike the routes above, making it easier for bikers and allowing them more time and energy to explore beautiful landmarks.

On the contrary, along this route, you'll get to explore the beloved Moc Chau plateau with its lush tea hills, the ancient Áng Pine forest, the majestic Dai Yem Waterfall, conquer the legendary Pha Luong Peak, visit the peaceful and beautiful Mai Chau valley, and discover the Hoa Binh hydroelectric dam – a pride of many generations of locals.
