With just under two weeks to go, the 2015 Dalat Flower Festival will be held from December 29, 2015, to January 2, 2016, in the misty land of Dalat, located in Lam Dong province, on the breezy Lâm Viên plateau, under the theme “Dalat – Myriad Colors of Flowers.” Besides honoring flowers and floriculturists, this year's festival is also an opportunity to introduce visitors to unseen clean fruit gardens.
The Dalat Flower Festival has traveled a journey not too long but significant in promoting the vibrant image of Vietnamese tourism. However, 2015 can be considered a crucial highlight as the flower festival has reached every household, every residential area. At the 2015 Dalat Flower Festival, farmers in Dalat aim not only to introduce visitors to the timeless values of the region but also to showcase products created by their own effort and labor. If you have the chance to visit the Dalat festival, don't forget to visit the unique plant garden of farmer Lê Hữu Phan (50 Hồ Xuân Hương, Dalat).
Giant Fruits and Flowers
Experience the exotic plant garden at the 2015 Dalat Flower Festival
Stepping into the garden during the 2015 Dalat Flower Festival, you'll be truly astonished to see alternating red and white pumpkins, some weighing tens of kilograms, making them challenging for one person to carry. Mr. Phan has cultivated 30 pumpkin stems, but he only leaves one fruit per stem to concentrate on nurturing it to achieve the largest possible weight, yielding high results every year. Alongside pumpkins imported from the US, gourds were also purchased by Mr. Phan from South America, now grown into 2 climbing vines, bearing golden fruits as large as goose eggs. If you observe closely, you'll notice gourds not in their usual green but in the characteristic purple hue of the Mediterranean region, known for various benefits like digestion aid, detoxification, anti-inflammatory properties, alongside large beets the size of rice bowls.
Moreover, the rare and precious black tomato variety successfully cultivated by Mr. Phan promises to produce many high-nutrition and aesthetically pleasing fruits by the time of the festival, contributing to diversifying and enhancing the uniqueness of the garden.
Dalat Flower Festival - a celebration of fresh flowers and sweet fruits
Flowers and fresh fruits – perhaps the 'specialty' of Dalat, making the flower festival a characteristic event for the people here, deeply ingrained in their subconscious, closely tied to their blood and soul, becoming an integral part of this 'thousand flowers' land. The 2015 Dalat Flower Festival is also a gathering for flower enthusiasts from all over, where they converge to exchange, research, explore various flower species, share experiences in flower care, and especially to promote business contracts.
On the occasion of the sixth festival, Mr. Phan will bring these products for sale so that tourists can not only admire but also enjoy the fruits of his tireless labor, the relentless efforts of himself and the children who were born, raised, and deeply attached to every inch of this land in general.
During the 5-day event, the festival consists of 9 main programs, along with exciting accompanying activities such as flower arranging competitions, flower fashion shows, weekend flower days, street pa-racing, art performances by various groups... An honoring night will take place on January 1, 2016, at Lam Viên Square, organized by the City Farmers' Association and the Dalat Youth Union, supported by other organizations, promising to be a truly festive night for flower and vegetable growers, and a visually stunning night with rich flower fashion.
