1. Small Islands:
Each empire will have its own small island to develop. Surrounding it will be the ocean, and no empires share the same island. Gamers can freely expand and build. Along with that are some wild islands with resources; you can use ships to transport villagers here for development.
- Land/Water ratio is 40/60
2. Large Islands:
Similar to Small Islands, each empire lives separately on its own island. The difference is that these islands are larger in size.
- The land/water ratio is 60/40
3. Coastal (Seaside):
With this map, all Empires live together on one large piece of land, with the sea arranged in different locations. Even though the Empires reside on different pieces of land, there are pathways to each other's homes without the need for boats.
- The land/water ratio is 75/25
4. Inland:
The land area in the Inland map is expanded by 85%. This is also the default map of AOE, currently being used by Vietnamese and Chinese Empire gamers as a competitive map. Therefore, it's advisable to delve deep into the Inland map and practice extensively on this terrain.
In solo mode, the Inland map is divided into 2 large islands, with random coastal fronts. Each player has the freedom to develop and utilize resources on their respective large island, constructing naval forces to attack opponents.
- The land/water ratio is 85/15
5. Highland:
Similar to Inland, but the water on this map is only small rivers dividing between the Empires. In some cases, the map may even have no water at all, resembling the Hill Country map we often compete on.
- Land/water ratio (if any): 95/5
6. Continental:
This is a rather unique map, as all Empires will be situated together on one large and sole island, surrounded entirely by sea, with no Empires bordered by walls. Some maps may be divided into smaller sections, however, we can still navigate between these maps through pathways.
- The land/water ratio is 50/50
7. Mediterranean:
This is perhaps the most unique map of the Empire. Land surrounds the entire map with a sea area in the middle.
- The land/water ratio is 75/25
8. Narrows:
In the Narrows map, all Empires have the opportunity to border the sea. In this map, naval units reign supreme, and naval battles are intense.
- The land/water ratio is 60/40
