Getting Started with Excel 2016 and 2019 (Part 3)
1. New Features on Excel 2019
Microsoft has added some exciting new features to Excel 2019, notably including 2 new types of charts.
- Funnel Chart:
Funnel chart is useful when you want to display values at various stages in a process. Basically, values in the funnel chart decrease at each stage, so the bars in the chart are arranged to resemble a funnel shape.
When creating a funnel chart for data, we use one column for stages throughout the process and another column for values at each stage. To create the chart, first select the data, then choose Insert => Recommended Charts => All Charts => Funnel.
- Map Chart:
Use Map Chart to compare data between different geographical areas, such as countries, regions, states, counties, or postal codes. Excel will automatically recognize the regions and create a visual map of the data.
To create a Map Chart, first select the data you want to chart, then choose Insert =>Maps =>Map Chart. Note that in some cases, Excel may encounter errors when creating the map. If an error occurs, you may need to add one or more columns with detailed location information.
2. New Functions in Excel 2019
Excel 2019 introduces 6 new Excel functions, making calculations easier. Among them, the TEXTJOIN and CONCAT functions allow users to combine text strings from ranges of cells, with or without a delimiter to separate each item, such as a comma. Use the IFS and SWITCH functions to specify a series of conditions. Finally, the MAXIFS and MINIFS functions help filter and calculate data in various ways more easily.
