The capital of the Kingdom of Laos boasts unique historical sites that intrigue travelers from afar. If you're in Vienna Chan, don't miss the chance to visit these extraordinary places. Mytour recommends the most famous ones:
Patuxay Victory Monument
Standing out on Lane Xang Avenue is the Patuxay Victory Monument, formerly known as Anou Savary (Unknown Soldier Monument). Patuxay sits between the roundabout bordering Vientiane city and the That Luang area. Anou Savary Monument was constructed in 1958, with its lower and outer parts mimicking the Arc de Triomphe in Paris, while the upper and interior showcase distinctive Laotian architectural features and sculptures. From the topmost tier of Anou Savary, you can have a comprehensive view of Vientiane.

Pha That Luang

At the end of Lane Xang Avenue lies That Luang – a UNESCO World Heritage Site and the symbol of Laos' Theravada Buddhist nation, printed on banknotes and the national emblem of the Lao People's Democratic Republic. Pha That Luang (Great Stupa in Lao) is a Buddhist stupa built in 1566 on the ruins of a 13th-century Indian temple, adorned with gold leaf. That Luang is the largest and most beautiful stupa in Laos. Every year, in mid-November, a grand national festival, the That Luang Festival, is held here. Entrance fee: 3,000 Kip/person.
Buddha Sculpture Garden

Buddha Park, located in Xieng Khuan, is situated 25km southeast of Vienna Chan. Here, you'll find over 200 concrete statues of Buddha and Hindu deities, with a standout 40-meter-long Buddha statue. Additionally, there are sculptures depicting humans, deities, animals, and demons. You can enter a giant pumpkin-shaped structure through a nearly 3-meter-high demon's mouth and climb stairs to explore each floor symbolizing Hell, Earth, and Heaven. It's recommended to travel here by tuk-tuk if there are many people, costing around 70,000 Kip, or catch bus number 45 near Talat Sao Market for 5,000 Kip per person, with a frequency of 20-40 minutes per trip. Entrance fee to Buddha Park: 5,000 Kip.
Talat Sao Morning Market

Located at the intersection of Lane Xang Avenue and Vieng District, the main area in Vienna Chan, this market opens from 7:00 AM to 4:00 PM. It's a bustling hub attracting numerous tourists for sightseeing and shopping in the Laotian capital. Inside, you'll find numerous small shops, restaurants, fruit and vegetable stalls, jewelry counters, silk, handicrafts, musical instruments, electronics, and household items. Talat Sao is where authentic Laotian goods converge, making it easy to find some delightful souvenirs for loved ones.
Wat Phra Keo Temple

Visiting Wat Phra Keo Temple feels like stepping into an 'artistic realm', adorned with sculptures, carvings, and precious artifacts made of shimmering gold, silver, and colorful gemstones. Wat Phra Keo is not only a place of worship for Buddhists but also a museum showcasing numerous Lao Buddhist artworks. In Vienna Chan, Wat Phra Keo holds significant importance and is renowned second only to That Luang.
Wat Sisaket Temple

Situated on Sethathirath Road, near Lane Xang Avenue, Wat Sisaket is a temple preserved in its original state since its construction in 1818 by King Chao Anou, following Siamese Buddhist architecture. Wat Sisaket impresses with its corridors adorned with over 2,000 copper, precious wood, ceramic, gold, and silver Buddha images. The temple houses a total of 6,840 rare Buddha statues, large and small.
Wat Ong Theu Temple

Also located on Setthathilath Road, Wat Ong Theu Temple captivates visitors with the largest copper Buddha statue in Vienna Chan. The name Vat Ong Theu translates to 'Temple of the Giant Statue'. Within the temple compound is the Sangha Buddhist school, where monks from across Laos come to study Buddhism.
Wat Si Muang Temple

In the midst of Setthathilath and Samsenthai Roads stands a temple that epitomizes the fusion of Buddhist faith and Laos' indigenous beliefs. Many legends surround this temple, but one certainty is Si Muang, a pregnant woman from about 300 years ago. The Lao people built Wat Si Muang to honor and commemorate her. When in Vienna Chan, you can visit here to tie a sacred thread around your wrist for good luck, following Laos' traditional customs.
