Under the rule of Divine King Remus, the nation of Remuria wasn't without flaws - like the dream of transferring all human memories into water - but overall, it remained a beautiful and powerful land. However, similar to what occurred with the kingdom of the desert, mortals once again shattered the dreams of the divine beings.

The Ambition of Boethius
As unveiled in the Genshin Impact storyline, during the expedition to conquer the high-sea islands undertaken by Remus after receiving aid from the dragon king Scylla, he traversed many tribes and amalgamated them into his kingdom. Among these tribes was a boy with agile fingers and a bright voice whom Remus selected and brought to his capital.
After witnessing the might of civilization and order, it resolved to transform itself, discarding its name and heritage. It opted for the new name Boethius and became a member of the Golden Drama Troupe - the four Harmosts Remus shared divine authority with to govern Remuria. It was entrusted with tuning the notes in the symphony conceived by Remus, aiming to perpetuate the prosperity of this nation for all its inhabitants.

But as we know, to the gods of Celestia, bestowing divine power upon mortals is a grave offense. Celestia believes that excessive power will corrupt and cause humans to degenerate, leading to violence and rebellion. This has indeed become a reality, as the once innocent child used an iron-fisted army to bring violence to the people of Remuria. Remus himself did not awaken to rectify the issue, as he placed too much trust in the four Harmosts he appointed.
'However, like a leaking boat, arrogance and prejudice that have long been entrenched have crushed the tuner and the ruler... The once magnificent symphony sometimes has to come to an end, just like any empire cannot be perpetually secure. With the expansion of the orbit, authority not only brings progress and order, but also arrogance, violence, and exploitation.' This led to resistance from the people and the Vishap tribe, led by the dragon king Scylla. Scylla's army marched to the capital of Remuria, awakening Remus.

As the army of the dragon king Scylla besieged the capital, Divine King Remus awoke. He rose from the dream of authority, where violence and division had cast a shadow darker than the night, shrouding the golden vault. In horror and remorse, he summoned the four Harmosts and the most loyal guards to issue a final decree, hoping to reunite the divided territories back to unified peace.
But Boethius disagreed. 'Since the dragon Scylla destroyed our lofty tower, slaughtered our musicians, then the poisoned tribes are no longer worthy of salvation and incorporation,' he said. 'If they are unworthy of incorporation, they should be cleansed from the land and the water, just as we eradicate plagues and extinguish flames.' And he betrayed his Divine King, shattering every chance of peace in an instant.

Displeased with Remus's decision, Boethius labeled Remus a traitor, bestowed upon Scylla the title of invader, and stole the holy chalice that Scylla once bestowed upon Remus. “Whether it is the mighty tribal army of the dragon lord or the determined divine king exhausting his strength to save the empire, both are swept away by an uncontrollable storm, even the magnificent palace, the verdant gardens are destroyed... And when the guiding melody of the golden symphony is lost, the once glorious people of the kingdom turn into grotesque statues...”
“All noble sacrifices, all plans devoid of any profit have been sabotaged by villains, ultimately turning into rubble. Whether it is the mighty tribal army of the draconic sovereign or the divine king determined to exhaust his strength to save the empire, both are swept away by an uncontrollable storm, even the magnificent palace, the verdant gardens are destroyed... And when the guiding melody of the golden symphony is lost, the once glorious people of the kingdom turn into grotesque statues...”
The betrayal of Boethius remains shrouded in mystery regarding whether other Harmosts aided him, but his ambition still lingers. After the final night of the golden age, Boethius persists. The relic, the Golden Night Whisper, speaks of Boethius lying amidst the rubble, muttering incomprehensible words. But his crimes are etched in every brick of the citadel.

Fortunately, humanity on the high seas still has a stronghold. As the citadel crumbled and Remus's rule collapsed, the people on the high seas were on the verge of chaos. The noble Queen Egeria of the land stepped forward to reconcile conflicts among tribes and foster harmony among races. Together, they built a new realm around the gushing stream, establishing the rule of law that persists to this day.

Though the citadel of Remus now lies beneath the deep sea and the land of Fontaine has risen, the once Harmosts seem to endure - perhaps due in part to the power Remus once shared. They are hiding somewhere, full of resentment as 'the perfect order is trampled by the rabble, the weak, and the deluded who have taken over the ancient territory of the empire' and the current inhabitants of Fontaine - the descendants of the ancient 'tribes' now living peacefully in their new land - bear their enmity.

To them, Fontaine is merely the childish babbling replacing epics, scattered verses replacing symphonies. They harbor shame as eternal authority has been 'destroyed by the fleeting madness of the divine king, now mocked by the newborn tribal nation.' These individuals believe that when the golden symphony resounds once more, 'The Golden Drama Troupe will finally receive the reward they rightfully deserve' – or in other words, boundless power.
'Waiting until perfect order distinguishes masters and slaves among humanity, robust and beautiful, making the glorious kingdom once again glorious... Waiting for that day, waiting for that day... Each member of the 'Golden Drama Troupe' will receive the future as a reward for them.'
