Doraemon movies have frequently sparked thoughts about renowned film brands, providing a unique cinematic experience for the audience.
This May, the famous Japanese robotic cat and its gang will make a comeback with a new cinematic adventure titled Doraemon The Movie: Nobita's Little Star Wars 2021 - Vietnamese title: Doraemon The Movie: Nobita And The Tiny Star Wars 2021.
The title immediately brings to mind the well-known Star Wars franchise by George Lucas. However, this is not the first time the Doraemon series has evoked thoughts of iconic film brands.
Doraemon: The Record of Nobita's Parallel Visit (1988) and Journey to the West

Doraemon: The Record of Nobita's Parallel Visit - roughly translated as Doraemon: Nobita's Journey to the West - is the 9th animated film in the Doraemon franchise, directed by Shibayama Tsutomu. The work draws inspiration from Journey to the West, a classic novel in Chinese literature familiar to Vietnamese audiences through a TV series of the same name.
The storyline revolves around Nobita's desire to prove the authenticity of Sun Wukong and his 72 divine abilities as depicted in the tales he read. Alongside Doraemon, they journey back to the Tang Dynasty, only to discover that the novel's characters are mere figments of imagination.

Fearing ridicule from his friends, Nobita borrows Doraemon's gadget to transform into Sun Wukong. However, in his quest, he inadvertently releases demons into the world by forgetting to deactivate the gadget. The Doraemon crew transforms into characters from Journey to the West to chase down the escaped demons.
Doraemon: Nobita and the New Steel Troops-Winged Angels (2011) and the Transformers series

Doraemon: Nobita and the New Steel Troops-Winged Angels - Roughly translated as Doraemon: Nobita And The Robot Army - is the 31st cinematic installment in the franchise directed by Teramoto Yukiyo, based on the story Doraemon: Nobita And The Iron Army (1986).
Nobita accidentally stumbles upon lost robot components and assembles them into a complete entity. However, he soon realizes that it's a destructive machine sent by extraterrestrial forces with a plot to conquer Earth. The movie revolves around the battle between the Doraemon gang and this iron army.

The Transformers toy brand debuted in Japan a few years before this story. However, it wasn't until 2007 that director Michael Bay brought these iconic robots to Hollywood, depicting the war between the Autobots and Decepticons.
Audiences may spot numerous similarities between the film's plot and the Doraemon manga. Sam Witwicky (played by Shia LaBeouf) gets entangled in the war between transforming robots when he buys a 1976 Chevrolet Camaro, which happens to be the Autobots' robot Bumblebee in disguise. Together, they fight against the villainous Decepticons and become close friends, much like Nobita and his robot creation Zanda Claus (Pippo) that he assembles.
Doraemon: Nobita's Treasure Island (2018) and The Hidden Gold Island

The movie Doraemon: Nobita and The Hidden Gold Island (Doraemon: Nobita's Treasure Island) - The 38th film in the Doraemon franchise draws inspiration from the novel Treasure Island by Robert Louis Stevenson. The novel is a familiar tale to children worldwide, inspiring numerous other popular cultural works. It has been adapted into films over 50 times, with notable versions by Walt Disney in 1996 and 2002.
The project, written by Genki Kawamura – the producer of Your Name The Boy and the Beast – revolves around Nobita after hearing the story of The Hidden Gold Island, wanting his own adventure to find the treasure.
However, at that time, Earth had been thoroughly explored by humans, from the skies to the depths of the ocean. Doraemon provides him with a treasure map to a mysterious island filled with gold. On their journey, Nobita and his friends encounter a dangerous band of pirates led by Captain Silver and must find a way to rescue Shizuka, who has been kidnapped by them.
