Honeycomb Glacier: Unveiling Intel's Innovation in Dual-Screen Gaming Laptops

The truth is that chip manufacturers like Intel don't just focus on processors; they also invest heavily in creating new markets for those chips. They set trends for future generations of computers and collaborate with computer manufacturers to make it happen. Sometimes they even design and build computers themselves to set those trends.

In 2019, Intel aimed to create a new trend to replace ultra-thin notebooks. Honeycomb Glacier is an effort to completely change the gaming laptop lineup, introducing a unique dual-screen design and entirely new experiences. This laptop features a main 15.6-inch 1080p display and a secondary 12.3-inch 720p display. With a unique hinge mechanism never seen before on any laptop, Honeycomb Glacier can elevate both screens, allowing the secondary screen to have a comfortable viewing angle and become more useful.

Intel takes pride in this hinge mechanism, although they haven't disclosed the details of the internal mechanism, they've revealed that it operates based on a roller clutch mechanism, allowing adjustment of the elevation angle to any desired position.

This special elevation mechanism will also help the laptop achieve better cooling. Intel revealed that the prototype Honeycomb Glacier is equipped with an 8-core processor and GeForce 1060 graphics, although not the most powerful currently available, it still meets many high-end gaming needs.

Using two screens simultaneously, especially when gaming, is a very common demand nowadays. You'd want to play games while also being able to check Facebook, chat with friends on Discord, or monitor live streaming software and read viewer chats.

However, this demand is difficult to meet on gaming laptops, hence laptops with two screens might be the next trend in the computer industry. Intel promises to lead this trend, but it's unclear when the Honeycomb Glacier prototype will be put into production.
