Situated in the Northwestern region, Lào Cai is blessed by nature with renowned tourist destinations like Sa Pa, Bắc Hà, or highland markets such as Cốc Ly, Cao Sơn…

With the guidance of a friend, we decided to embark on a journey along the Lào Cai route to visit Mường Khương market, then proceed to Cao Sơn market, downstream to Cốc Ly for a boat ride on the Chảy River, and return to Lào Cai in the afternoon to witness the sunset over the Red River.
For those planning to travel with their own vehicles, it's advisable to send the car from Hanoi to Lào Cai by train and spend the night on the train to conserve energy. Alternatively, you can take a sleeper bus from Hanoi to Lào Cai via the Nội Bài – Lào Cai expressway, with ticket prices at 250,000 VND per person.

Along National Highway 70 from Lào Cai city to the Phiệt area, we followed the peaceful Nậm Thi river. After about 16km, we turned left onto National Highway 4D towards Mường Khương. The road is currently undergoing upgrading and renovation, appearing rough. Nonetheless, riding motorbikes along winding mountainous roads, exploring the grandeur of the towering mountains, created an unforgettable experience for us.

On the high mountain slopes, besides the vibrant golden cornfields during the autumn harvest season, there are areas of pineapple and tea cultivation by the Hmong and Dáy ethnic groups on both sides of the road, painting a truly beautiful picture in the highlands of Northwestern Vietnam. Pineapple and tea are two agricultural products recently introduced for cultivation in Mường Khương district but have quickly established a famous brand for this land.
