Public transportation in Singapore is exceptionally convenient, especially the underground train system (MRT). You can explore the entire island nation with ease using these trains that traverse beneath the ground.
Exploring Singapore Simplified with MRT
Despite its small size, Singapore offers a plethora of interesting tourist destinations. Even if you're a first-time visitor to the Lion City, you can easily explore its famous attractions with just an MRT map in hand.

Every MRT station in Singapore is conveniently located near a tourist attraction, so be prepared to walk and utilize public transportation. This way, you'll save significantly on costs and enjoy many exciting experiences while exploring Singapore.
Singapore's MRT system comprises a total of 7 lines, each with its own name, symbol, and color. If you're traveling within the city center, focus on the following lines: North – South Line (NS – Red), East – West Line (EW – Green), North – East Line (NE – Purple), Circle Line (CC – Yellow), Downtown Line (DT – Light Blue).
For the most convenient travel, it's advisable to purchase an EZ Link card for multiple uses. The initial cost of the card is 12 SGD, which includes 7 SGD loaded value and 5 SGD non-refundable. You can buy a new card or top up (minimum 10 SGD each time) at top-up machines located at MRT stations, card sale counters at MRT stations, and 7-Eleven stores. Upon returning, you can get back the 5 SGD if you return the card at the sales counter.
In addition to the EZ Link card, there's the Singapore Tourist Pass designed for tourists with unlimited MRT and bus rides. The Singapore Tourist Pass comes in 3 denominations: 10 SGD (1 day), 16 SGD (2 days), and 20 SGD (3 days). Additionally, you need to pay an extra 10 SGD which is refundable upon returning the card. You can purchase these cards at ticket counters at major MRT stations including MRT Changi, Orchard, Chinatown, City Hall, Raffles Place, Ang Mo Kio, Harbourfront, Bugis, and Lavender.

Each train line has two terminus stations, and you need to determine your destination station and direction. There are clear signage at interchange stations.
