How to Get from Taipei to Sun Moon Lake (Hồ Nhật Nguyệt)
There are numerous ways to travel from Taipei to Sun Moon Lake, such as taking a train, bus, airplane, walking, swimming... just kidding! The optimal way to reach Sun Moon Lake from Taipei is by bus. There are two options for taking the bus.
Option 1: Take a bus from Taipei Main Station directly to Taichung, which takes about 2 hours. Then, transfer to another bus to Sun Moon Lake, which takes about 1.5 hours. Therefore, the total travel time to reach the lake is approximately 3 hours excluding waiting time for the bus.
Option 2: You can travel directly to Sun Moon Lake by bus and purchase tickets at 7-Eleven stores, starting from Taipei Main Station.

Legend has it that standing amidst the lake and gazing towards its western edge, one witnesses a crescent-shaped body of water resembling a waning moon; while turning eastward reveals a circular form akin to the sun, hence the origin of its name, Moon Lake.
