Exploring Thailand – Getting Lost in the World's Largest Outdoor Museum

Mueang Boran – the Ancient City Park, also known as Ancient City, is situated within a vast park in Samut Prakan. Dubbed as a 'Miniature Thailand in the Heart of Bangkok,' Mueang Boran features over 115 architectural wonders including palaces, temples, monuments, and even reconstructed lost treasures from the Land of Golden Temples.

The outdoor museum preserves the world's largest collection of architecture, art, and culture. It brings to life the long-standing historical heritage and cultural essence of Thailand, spanning from the Lanna, Sukhothai, Ayutthaya eras to the Rattanakosin period.

The ancient architectural complex of Mueang Boran is divided into various zones, each showcasing distinctive architectural styles, offering a unique experience to visitors. The area near the entrance leads guests to a serene, rustic village surrounded by lush greenery and quaint stilt houses. A pure countryside atmosphere with familiar sights creates a cozy ambiance for visitors.

In the midst of Mueang Boran, travelers will step into the Rattanakosin era with its magnificent and grandiose buildings and palaces. A prime example is the Dusit Maha Prasat Palace – a perfect replica of the grand palace in Bangkok. Here also lies the renowned structure from the Ayutthaya Kingdom – the Sanphet Prasat Palace.

Not only that, visitors will also be amazed by the Sumuru Temple surrounded by a giant Anondha sea monster.

Another area of Mueang Boran boasts stunning architectures like the Noen Prasat Palace and the grand walls of Wat Mahathat Temple from the Sukhothai period – the era of King Ramkhamhaeng, who created the first Thai alphabet for the people.

Additionally, there are other architectural masterpieces such as Wat Chong Kham Temple in Lamphang, Wat Phra Si Sanphet Temple, Prang Sam Yot Temple, and many other temples from different ancient periods.

On the other hand, there are places preserving the remaining architectures of the ancient Khmer empire, most notably the two historical parks of Phimai in Nakhon Ratchasima and Phanom Rung in Buriram with architectural styles reminiscent of the splendor of the Angkor Wat temple complex in Cambodia.

For spiritual enthusiasts, the Ancient City area will captivate visitors with its sacred architectures such as the Phanom Rung Monastery in Buri Ram province, the Giac Ngoc Pagoda, the Kuan Yin Temple housing the Bodhisattva Avalokitesavara, the Sikhoraphum Temple,...
