When visiting Quang Ninh, aside from Halong Bay, Tra Co emerges as a renowned destination, known for its coastal beauty and cultural sites. Dive deeper into this homeland through the following article!
Discovering Fascinating Destinations in Quang Ninh at Tra Co
Cape Sa Vi
Cape Sa Vi, also known as Cape Got, is a promontory located in the extreme northeast of Tra Co Ward. At Cape Sa Vi, there is a relief sculpture depicting three pine trees, with a verse by poet To Huu carved on it: '...From Tra Co forests extend/ To Ca Mau forests...'. The simple verse fills every visitor with pride for their homeland.

When visiting Cape Sa Vi, tourists can capture memorable moments next to the relief sculpture. Additionally, you can also explore the historical border information cluster of Sa Vi – a symbol of this borderland region.

The architectural complex comprises three sections: a square, a cluster of main structures, and service houses, forming a unique cultural architectural ensemble. At the top of the main structure cluster are 8 steel sunrays reaching towards the blue sky, standing 27 meters tall, cast from everlasting concrete, coated with zinc layer on the surface to withstand weather impact.

17km Long Beach
Located 8km from Mong Cai city, Tra Co boasts the longest coastline in Vietnam, stretching up to 17km. White sand, clear water, and lush green trees leave a lasting impression on visitors. The pristine nature and tranquil atmosphere of the coastal fishing village offer a valuable resort experience.

Trà Cổ Communal House
When visiting Quang Ninh, Tra Co is a must-visit destination, and tourists cannot miss Trà Cổ Communal House, an ancient temple associated with the legend of “The People of Tra Co, ancestors of Do Son”. The temple was built during the Later Le Dynasty (1461), and its formation and existence are closely linked to the history of Tra Co land today.

Legend has it that during the Later Le Dynasty, fishermen from Do Son (Hai Phong) ventured far to make a living. Amidst the raging waves and fierce winds, twelve families drifted to a deserted peninsula inhabited only by parrots and coconut palms. Among them, six families persevered, determined to cling to the land, the sea, and build a new homeland.

Gradually, this place has evolved into a prosperous hamlet. Tra Co Communal House was built through the collective efforts and contributions of the people to worship the region's benefactors, the ancestors who pioneered the land.

With significant architectural, artistic, and cultural values, in 1974, Tra Co Communal House was recognized as a National Architectural and Artistic Monument. By 2005, the Tra Co Communal House festival was selected to be introduced at the 'Northeast Ethnic Cultural Day'.

Nam Tho Pagoda
According to inscriptions on the bronze bell, the pagoda dates back to the third year of Thieu Tri reign (1843), facing north, with a Hoi architecture structure symbolizing the convergence of waterways.

Nam Tho Pagoda comprises main structures: three gates, ancestral hall, mother's hall, guest hall. Despite several renovations, the pagoda still preserves a system of 53 ancient statues.
Notably, among them are 4 statues of Infant Shakyamuni, 2 statues of Guan Yin Bodhisattva escorting children, and 2 small statues of the Three Saints. Therefore, this place is a miniature 'ancient sculpture museum' of Northeast Vietnam.

Not only a cultural and religious hub, Nam Tho Pagoda is also a historical and cultural landmark intertwined with our nation's patriotic struggles. In 1905, Phan Boi Chau, en route to China, met with Japanese and Chinese revolutionaries, seeking their support for the Dong Du movement. Pursued by enemies, he sought refuge at Nam Tho Pagoda, where he was sheltered and aided by the local people.

During the two wars against French colonialism and the American empire, Nam Tho Pagoda served as a storage for provisions, a hideout for cadres, a repository for revolutionary documents, and a place to bid farewell to local youths departing for the resistance.
